That seems like a lot for one player.
- arichardson22

None of those players are an eichel. Look at lindros trade. Like it or not lindros was a beast early while healthy. If he was healthy whole career who knows how that plays out. Can’t predict health. At least not without a history of it. I’d do that lindros trade everyday of the week.

“I look at the top line and they didn’t produce [in the playoffs] but again I can just tell you from what I guess we call it the eye test, from watching the games, I thought they had a lot of zone time and generated a lot of chances.”

That’s the opposite of what I thought they had.

I think all of the stuff about spying, shutting out alumni was just an excuse but that's just my opinion. It was about not being relevant. Scott wants the Flyers to contend every year and to be a cap team. I actually think the cap being flat could be a blessing in disguise for the Flyers.
- MJL

“Scott wants flyers to be contenders every year” say no more. Totally agree. And like hexy said it wasn’t go time. You can’t be a contender during rebuild. Either commit to it or don’t. Not committing to it has lead to 45 years no cup and counting. Change the plan not the goal. Yet many many flyers fans believe the hype without looking around. The only reason philly was good (not great) all those years was because they could buy players. In a cap world you simply can’t. Hence years of mediocrity. But hey let’s roll with g Jake ghost coots the next 3 years are so while Carolina rags isle etc get younger and more skilled and better than us. Then we can be in same boat and talking about trading frost bee hays Sanheim Myers York and whoever else to try to fill major holes. And next thing you know we’ve pissed the best thing to happen to this team (hart) career away

Exactly. It’s the company line. And foolish flyers fans WILL buy it hook line and sinker. Year after year after year after year after year.

This league getting younger and faster. G Jake coots don’t have that. Look at final 4 teams. All speed. No dump and chase. Philly can’t play that with these top players. Maybe here and there but not for whole game. And since there’s no hitting anymore you can’t slow them down soooo. And even when they had puck in zone they had no real sustained dangerous chances. Yeah a few here and there but we were dominated by Montreal and isle. Minus a few spurts here and there. I honestly can’t believe people make excuses for this team. Not that it’s the players fault. Game has just changed. Montreal shouldn’t have even been in playoffs. We shouldn’t have been #1 seed. If normal year we’d more than likely been bounced round 1 and looked like crap. There’s only 2 positives from this team this year. Hart and Oscar comeback.

2 of the 4 will be traded this offseason or Seattle draft g Jake ghost jvr. I’m not buying company line fletch talking. He has too much of a history of trading. He’s not a bad gm. I think

I wonder if the Flyers brass have soured on Nolan Patrick....wasn’t even invited to the bubble was a bit of a surprise....Fletchers comment about his current situation and him having a quality of life while pointing out that while the team fought hard until last week while sacrificing time away from their families, Patrick was golfing. One guy fought back from cancer to make it back in 9months, while another couldn’t even get on the ice after a full year off!! The comment about differing opinions kinda stuck out when Fletcher was asked about the concussion vs. migraine cause. Maybe I’m off base, but after the Lindros’s era and the whole side show it caused I probably pay more attention to the words of the GM, then I mostly would.

I wouldn’t call the Stars a bunch of speed demons, and I wouldnt call Jake or G “deficient of speed”. Both skate very well. Coots skates fine.

Guys like Thompson, Grant, JvR (and more importantly in the playoffs) Hagg and Braun are not fast skaters and made the team look slow. That and their inability to “play fast” with quick puck victories/quick decisions/precision passes. Even the top 6 had issues with the tightness of their play that made them look slower than they are .

Don’t think they soured on him at all. Fletcher emphasized he’s a key player for us moving forward. My guess of why he wasn’t Invited to bubble: hes made progress and we want to focus on 20-21 season for him. Could have had a setback in the bubble and if he did, then we’d be down one guy on our allowed bubble rostee

Literally watched miro skate past radulov to backcheck into his own zone and steal puck before shot was made. Must not watch Dallas. Obviously no team has all speed demons but Dallas is an extremely fast team and plays fast. We have some speedsters too just not enough to keep up whole game

I guess we’ll see what the future holds...be interesting to see what the Flyers do with the RFA status....ie what type of contract they offer? Do they pay on potential? On his production to this point ? For how long ?

No offense but if you think g and Jake aren’t deficient of speed and that coots skating is fine for today’s nhl you must not have watch flyers in playoffs. Montreal blew past them. Isle played with them hart only reason we won a series and were in other series

Yeah I watched them. My opinion stands. Again, I don’t think you are off base stating there are skaters who hurt the team speed...especially in the playoffs....but it wasn’t those guys.

Voracek is a powerful skater and particularly good when he can cut in laterally. Couturier manages and Giroux has always been more quick than fast.

The bigger issue is, as Fletcher put it, you can't play fast when you are turning pucks over. The Flyers did not do a particularly good job against Montreal or the Islanders of cleanly exiting the D zone. Too many turnovers in their own zone or the neutral zone.

Really bill. Corsi? Do I need to list the players with bad Corsi numbers who were studs in playoffs?
I’ll just leave this nugget here

I agree... namely Grant and Thompson, and the lack of sufficient D-to-F clean exits.

Nope, no need to list anything. You basically said that Fletcher pulled out of thin air the notion that the top end of the lineup had more offensive zone time and scoring chances than they gave up. The numbers bear out that they did.

Didn't say they did nearly enough with that possession or XG edge. Just saying the numbers back up that Couturier's line did, in fact, have it overall.

Valid point... and why were they turning those picks over consistently? Well just from watching and not looking at stats both Montreal and isle used team speed to be all over the puck. When we got control they were hounded right away. We couldn’t do that to them because we don’t have the speed to get on them. All 3 zones we were owned from that standpoint. Over and over we lost almost every loose puck battle breakout retrieval. That’s not from pure skill. It’s from speed. Coots is fine in one particular zone yes until it becomes a race. G has lost a few steps. Father Time. Yes Jake has a powerful stride when he chooses to use it which isn’t often enough. Sorry but just sounds like excuses. How come these other teams don’t have these same criticism year after year? Just curious
