If TP and Co are that serious on slashing costs and creating an internal cap, I wouldn't be shocked at all if they're secretly dangling Eichel already. For Buffalo fans sake I hope not but when it comes to shrewd business moves, I wouldn't be surprised at all! - NewfieStud

Behind a pretty weak Sabres team and all his issues he still had a 920 save percentage one year and 924 another year and his career average is 918. I think he deserves that contract and I always liked him more than the masses. |

No. Olosfson isn't a 1LW, and Skinner is a fringe 2LW. DeMelo is a solid RD, but in no way is he top pairing material. You need a 1RD, and a true 1LW. Cozens will certainly be an x-factor and you would need some serious results out of the prospect in his rookie season to help with these deficiencies.
IF you are able to acquire a true 1LW (Hall/Hoffman/Dadanov), then you'd be looking at a much more stable top 3 lines. |

Olo just played his rookie year with 42pts in 54g. I'd give him at least a couple years in the league before we say he doesn't have top line talent, he's certainly got the goal scoring ability.
Agreed on DeMelo and Cozens. Skinner is better than a fringe 2LW though. |

For sure. Would be crappy to see Buffalo turn into another Ottawa situation where the fans have turned on there owner. |

the only thing that would bother me if i were a VGK fan would be the years.. i know he isn't old but goalies are a weird group and sometimes things change quickly |

i don't think jack needs one of those you mentioned for his line to be successful:
2018-19--skinner 40 goals (career high,) eichel 82 points, reinhart 65 points (career high)
2019-20--rookie olofsson 20 goals/42 points (54 games,) eichel 78 points (68 games) reinhart 50 points (69 games)

am of the opinion that a top-notch d-man doesn't need a top-notch #2 next to him...
any of demelo, miller, joker or montour will do |

Cutting budget and trading 8 is such a giant conflict.
Bit disappointed that you had to resort to a straight salary dump on Montour. Was looking forward to seeing you squirm a little harder to get down to that number. I think getting value on that kind of move is almost impossible this year. Not to say he can't be moved, but that it would bring back salary. |

I also had us moving Risto and Montour in a cost cutting exercise, even if its simply shuffling the chairs with money in and money out deals as you specified in the Monahan deal.
I like the roster but just worry about the goaltending still.
Hopefully we could replace moving 8th OA however with Mitts/Thompson and the 2021 first |

i could get behind that if we needed to shed more salary...however, i'd really like cozens surrounded by competent vets or in he case of bennett, a young vet |

moving no. 8 really hurts the farm system and it is a conflict...however, if they could get two picks back for montour (especially a 2nd and 3rd) it helps that loss a bit |

Hall is barely better then Skinner, and is about to sign the same contract. And when I say barely I'm not even certain that's true |

I don't think you can move him for picks. I think that's why the rumor of non-tendering him came up.
If 17 teams are working on restricted budgets, and 10 more already have cap problems (just a guess), then there's almost no money left. If you have it, you can use it on better things than Montour. |
