for years buffalo had trouble scoring 5v5...
during skinner's eight years in carolina his 142 ev-goals was seventh in the league for those playing 500 or more games but his 1.08 goals/60 at 5v5 was third best trailing only stamkos (1.26) and nash (1.18)...
i get that he's not your cup of tea but he was a huge get to help the sabres biggest scoring weakness - Michael Pachla
Not to mention, he put up crazy points with Jack. Was doing ok until Sobotka “the lynchpin” got hurt, then mojo got hurt. Yet Ralph never put Skinner back with Jack. Because “practice”. Heck even when Olofsson got hurt, you’d have thought, nows the time, slide Skinner up. Get him rolling. Nope, motivational soccer czar. Practice harder... forget last years 40 goals. That to me is still baffling.
Find a 2c or bring back the lynchpin, because it’s the “lean” move and let’s see what skinner has.
Olo. Jack. Samson.
Skinner. Sobotka. Tage. - the “lean” 2nd line
Or
Skinner. Henrique. Tage. - the “half lean” 2nd line. |

buffalo fans will never love him, not at $9m-per...they want certified angus beef but want to pay ponderosa prices and if they don't get it they b!tch and complain and nitpick the hell out of it - Michael Pachla
Well played Michael.
Maybe they over-paid by $1 million per year but I still like him on the Sabres. The Sabres need more Skinners (and Reinharts), not less.

Henrique would be a nice fit at #2C IMO. Slide Cozens into 3C and then flip next year - or sooner.

I get the Buffalo fans thing but few see that many in the league didn't love him or his previous team even if he did his one strength of scoring even-strength when he is on. Sometimes you have to bring more to the table and on a regular basis.

Agree. I still like cozens starting on 3rw.
Kahun. Mojo. Cozens.
But all 3 play all positions on that line depending on situation and opponent.
I’d also slide Cozens Up to 2rw depending on situation and opponent. Especially if Tage slots in as 2rw.
Which is the internal cap move I expect. He’s not waiver eligible. He won’t be a 4rw, regardless of what shirtless photos gerbe has of him (not that there is anything wrong with that). It’s make or break, he either excels at 2/3rw or he gets traded... I doubt he had much value in the league. So let’s see what he’s got. Worse case, he’s the extra forward and sits in the press box. |

Let's be honest though. $9m is pay for elite production.
We all debated his contract value that year and most were in the $8m+/- range even while he was on a 50G pace. Many of us stated that we would be ok at the top end of the range if they could land on a shorter Term contract length...around 5-6 years was desired....That isn't Ponderosa.
At $9m I'd expect production of around 75+ points, with 60% of them being G's.
It will be tough for him to hit that.
So of course people are going to female dog, he's overpaid by $1m at least. Producing at the rate he did last season makes Okposo a tremendous value. |

|
|
If my math is right, going off him signing at the 41 game mark for easy math (scoring half his points in that span) he would've had a career .63ppg average before contract and .93 after. It's a pretty big jump. He might have had the edge on Samson (career .71ppg), but not by a ton IMO.
I hope KA does. We need a few good deals on quality players to get the wheel back to turning here. I'm saying 6 years 39M and I'm happy. - RhinoFan
Are you happy with that measure? Feels like comparing their production during their 2 year bridges is a better measure.
I think your AAV is about where this ends, but a little shorter term. Tough year to predict anything.

No they don't. If they are going to go deep into the playoffs they need players with ability, heart, and size, grit, consistency and have a half-priced Skinner on the third line. |

Skinner does play with that edge and heart you want to see. Especially in the playoffs. He’s not the biggest guy. But he’s tough to play against. Just look at the penalties he draws.
I like the player, maybe a bit over painf currently. Fix his line mates and he will be fine. |

Risto for Henrique.
Montour, Mojo, Mitts, 2021 first for Monahan And Giordano
Skinner-Eichel-Thompson
Kahun-Monahan-Reinhart
Olofsson-Henrique-Cozens
CJ Smith-Asplund-Okposo
Dahlin-Miller
McCabe-Joker
Giordano-Borgen
Ullmark
Hutton
That first line defensively would be pretty scary though.

I'm all for the attributes you mention, and happen to agree that they need to find guys with skill AND them.
Do we know what The Buffalo Sabres are?
Are they the:
-Swashbucklers of the 1970's
-Hardest Working Team of the late '90's
-Fast and Furious of 2005-2007
-Big, Tough and hard to play against direction of GMTM
-Fast, North-South image that GMJB spoke of (then filled the roster old guys who lost steps)
What is their identity?
What is their updated Organization Objective?
What are their Goals for 1, 3, 5 years?
Do they even have a Strategic plan, or are they shooting from the hip with no real course direction?
I really have no clue, and they haven't said a damn thing.

Instead of Gio how about going after DeMelo to play with Dahlin?
