As someone said earlier, we are a better team now than we were 2 hours ago. Brilliant move - get the stop-gap 2C vet with leadership skills and reduce our salary cap by $1.25 million. And we now can keep our 8OA. Adams still has tradeable assets in Risto/Montour+ to upgrade at RW and perhaps 3C (if Cozens isn't it). - SabreWest
I would love to see Montour in the blue and gold for another year. If he can land us a legit RW, I’m ok with trading him. Skinner/Staal/Toffoli maybe |

Following the trade, Adams said he did get the chance to talk with Staal about becoming a member of the Sabres. While he said that the conversation was not long, it was a good opportunity for Adams to catch up with his former teammate in Carolina.
"What I said to Eric too was that I understand when this happens, there's a lot of emotion," Adams elaborated. "There's a lot of things going on in your mind, in terms of, 'Ok, what does it mean and how does it affect my family?' There's just so many moving parts when you get this kind of news.
"We're obviously going to have a much more in-depth conversation soon, Ralph will as well, but it was great to talk with him. He's a phenomenal human being, and that's very important to what we're doing here." |

The habs gave up an additional 5th rounder for one of the worst d-men in the NHL analytically speaking in Edmundson and then preceded to give him a 3 year $14M deal.

Good start by adams. I was hoping for monahan but im impressed by this trade and staal should fit perfectly for us.
Hopefully this is just the first domino of a wild offseason for the sabres - ieetbred
carolina connection came through for the first-time gm as staal had a m-ntc and didn't have the sabres on the list |

I listened to the Adams presser tonight. Pham asked him point blank about his ability to spend to the cap. No clear answer. - jcragcrumple

Plus-Solid centre his whole career, leader, cup winner, tough, goal scorer.
Minus-36 once the season starts. Any gas left in the tank for a run? I’d like to think so |

One of Rivet's "good" defensemen.
Ya know, the one I got assaulted for bringing up yesterday

The Sabres had no clue what to do with Johansson. They wanted him to play center and he sucked it. Tried him at wing ..... he didn’t do much either.
So getting staal is a win ...... |

Answer was definitely not clear, but his answer was, and I'm paraphrasing, that the Pegula's will do anything to win. He implied it, but he dodged the question, even after he said he's not dodging the question. He's not worried about the cap so much as putting together a competent team that actually compliments each other. So.. I mean it's an ok answer.

I liked him ok. He was more talented than 50% of our forwards... which probably isn't saying much. That said I still cannot for the life of me understand this trade from the minny perspective. |

The way I see it Pegula will spend the money if it’s one of the guys he wants.
