Can't disagree. He hasn't had much around him though and a losing environment. My fear is, if we trade him, he'll turn into a great dman wherever he goes. He made strides last year after a brutal 2018 - turbo044
For that to happen the team acquiring him would have to put him on PP1 and manage to get him into high offensive zone usage to maximize his skill set.

His hockey sense is never going to improve.
You can't live out of fear.
Move him now and stop fooling around.
Let somebody else think they can magically change him. |

Ristolainen, 8th overall, + for Ehlers and the 10th overall? - kingcong39
I wouldn’t think that’s enough on the Sabres end however crazier things have happened. |

I don't even think that will be enough, honestly, as he just makes far too many dumb mistakes. |

He's going to walk in UFA in two years because this team does not know what they are doing |

Well hopefully Dodson and Kline can step up, I glad it's this week instead of the Rams. See how that D line can keep Fitz in check. |

I think you would have to include Mitts

Mikko Koivu would be another interesting name if he decides to keep playing.
Still very good in his own end just doesn’t offer much at all offensively at this point.

Yep - good interview by the guys. I'm not the biggest fan of Peters and Rivet isn't much better (I like Ray and Biron a lot when they're on), but, along with Duff, they did a solid interview. This will alleviate any thoughts that Staal's not coming to Buffalo. Staal's was a bit reserved/vanilla in the interview, but, he'll be great in the room and will be a solid 2C

was he the 1C in Minny? If so and he still put up solid numbers i can imagine he should match that as the 2C with Jack taking all the hard matchups even with getting older.. unless they cut his time which i doubt |

Great for a fan base and a team in dire need of a morale boost and an infusion of talent down the middle. Good to know that if Eichel misses a few games here and there it won't be a total gong show. I obviously want more moves this off season but this move alone makes the team so much more respectable in so many ways. |

Yes he was. I mentioned this point before with Monahan. Staal will definitely get some easier matchups.
Again, if he pots 50+ points for a 3.25 player. That’s good value |

granted we haven't seen him play... but as a first trade for GMKA i am impressed with what he got.. JB looked for a 2C for how long and never got one.. KA does it in his first trade |

Curious on everyone’s thoughts on potential unprotected players and the expansion draft. Sign, trade, leave unprotected. I’d say the 2 main targets for Seattle are Montour and Girgs |

That’s if you resign both... grigs is a ufa now. And Monte an rfa. Moves like the Staal move help, because it’s one year left. So frees up a spot to protect another forward.
I think we have to see what the team looks like a bit more. |

Montour will be traded this offseason I think
Girgs, maybe, but maybe they take a younger type too who is eligible but the Sabres spent developing and they come and poach him.

I think you’re right. I would have liked to have seen him one more year. He was electric in Anaheim. I’d prefer to keep Risto over him though. We lack team toughness and Risto brings it. I feel like he is just starting to show his potential |
