So so many goalie options right now. This is the reason i never wanted Askarov at 4th overall...well that and the fact goalies are way too much of a gamble to take that high imo unless you are like Carolina and have plenty of young forwards and defensemen but need a top notch goalie. They can afford to take a risk like this but the Wings can't right now.
Columbus is another team that might have to make a move or two to be under the cap. They have 7 million in cap space but Dubois alone should likely eat all of that maybe more. They also have Andersson to re-sign. They could move one of Merzlikins or Korpisalo (both 26 years old) to make a bit more cap room. Maybe they also try to dump Wennberg who hasn't exactly lived up to his potential for a 14th overall pick and has a 4.9 million cap hit. - dcz28
I’ve wondered if CBJ might consider moving Ryan Murray. Lots of injuries |

I've heard David Savard mentioned in trade rumors but not Murray. Both are UFAs after the 20-21 season so i guess it might be possible. Not sure what they would be looking for if they decided to trade Murray. |

Wenberg might have redeemed himself in the play-offs. DRW just needs a stop-gap goalie for 2 yrs.....to expose in the Seattle expansion draft and get to a spot where they might be able to get into the play-offs. If they acquired MAF they could expose him to the draft even..........A lot of options will open up and Stevie will be on top of it!

This makes me want to become a Wings.
Having such an insightful and thoughtful blogger really can persuade someone who’s on the fence.
I was a Leaf fan but really got sick of the ideology of just being a good season team and always making the playoffs. I was always wondering why Shanahan was hired and it’s just to increase merchandise sales, ticket sales and all the other business sides of things.
I turned to Ottawa - I’m north of Toronto so looking for a team that’s close in proximity to see them live, and I do enjoy Dorion, their scouting and their development system, however, being a team based in Ottawa you get a lot of the folks who just want to follow the rules of government, and, like you allude to, forced group ideologies of this BLM/Antifa movement.
It’s nice to be somewhere where hockey is hockey and nothing more than that. Sports are the place reserved by society to hold back political agendas.
Between Jeremy and Yzerman the Red Wings are slowly becoming a plausible idea. Rich history also helps. Great ownership goes a very long way.
Being a 3-4 hour drive is no different than Ottawa.
It sucks being on the fence. |

The Wings are going to be an interesting team to follow and the GM is the guy you want to keep track of.

I’m fine wi th a stop gap. We may need even 3-4 years. Goalie development is unpredictable sometimes! |

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that! Toronto wanted to put a pure offensive dominance forward. They have unbelievable offensive talent. The defensive side suffers a bit. Detroit is a long way off, but I’m hoping they build “correctly”. Boost your core, get a system that de emphasizes short-comings and develop a strong blue line. Yzerman has a lot of patience and thinks outside the box. It’s exciting for sure! |

Nice thought, but I don't partake. I'll settle for a ginger ale!

This is kind of why i want the Wings to get a more proven young goalie. One that can grow with the team still and be in his prime when they are ready to compete. Wings don't exactly have a stellar track record when it comes to drafting and developing goalies. All we have to do is look at the last 30 years how many starting NHL goalies they have produced. You have Osgood, Howard and maybe Mrazek. Possibly you can add Legace even though he wasn't drafted by the Wings or even start his NHL career with Detroit.
Wings aren't known for finding top end goalies in the draft (or even defensemen for that matter) compared to some other teams. |

In the modern era, I agree. Lindstrom, Fischer, Kronwall were definitely good D picks. Hronek and (hopefully) Seider are our best picks in way too long. Luckily Yzerman does well in finding goaltenders. We definitely need several in the pipeline! It’s amazing how teams are already tripping over themselves to get a crack at Murray. Who knows what he’s going to ask for in $$$ |
