I wouldn’t say plenty. I feel they can get done what they need to but the fact the cap is not going up for two years puts a wrinkle in plans all GM’s had in place. The cap alone was supposed to go up at least 2 to 3 million this year. That’s Toews contract right there which is gone so again I wouldn’t say plenty of cap space looking at the players that Need contracts for next year. - nyisles7
We really do have this conversation every single year and every year we end up in the bottom half of.. "cap space available" lists. Yes, we need to sign some guys that are RFA this summer and next. We have $$ coming off the cap, can sign to 2 or 3 year bridge deals until we have TONS coming off the cap and/or if needed trade a guy like Leddy. Guys on these boards always seem to think we will have cap issues and we have never been close to the cap ceiling. ... I just don't worry about it.. ever.
after the first day of the season you put Ladd in the AHL and he is off the books too.

I think that’s easier said than done.
On Ladd his Salary is on our books whether he’s in The AHL or NHL. It’s not a two way contract. It’s also a bonus heavy contract so even a buy out saves us at most 1 million on the cap.
Like I said if the cap went up as planned we would be in better shape but that’s not the case unfortunately and has tightened things a bit more.

Yep! Ladd's contract is on the books even in the AHL. Cannot do what the Rangers did with Redden. |

Wouldn’t be much of a cap if you could bury all your mistakes in the AHL now would it. |

I agree 7. You have to live with the bad contracts and this why I'm against a lot of these 7 year contracts. I'm fine giving 7 year contracts to young talent especially like Barzal but giving 7 year contracts to players in their late 20's and 30's and players who do not generate offense on their own is dumb. |

If you could Sign Barzal for 7 years at 7 would you do it? |

You missed my edit. I give 7 years to Barzal without thinking about it. I stand behind Lee should have gotten 5 years tops. |

I’m not going nuts and have in the past never had a fear about the Isles Cap.
However when you look at the cap freeze, the money available and the players needing contracts this off season there is a tightness that needs to be dealt with.
As far as your misinterpretation about burying contracts in the AHL explains why you don’t see any cap concerns. |

Of course which is to my point to Ses that 7 year deals aren’t all bad.
I think Barzal’s deal will be close to that maybe 7.5 Just my opinion |

Those were the days when the Rags spent 80 million and missed the POs for 7 years. |

It's so easy. Top young offensive players like Barzal get 7 years. Players like JT and Panarin get 7 years because they are top offensive talent. All other players 29 and 30 who cannot put up that type of offense do not get 7 year deals. I just need to take over all NHL contracts. |

One thing I will add to this is that years ago young players signed bridge deals and waited for their pay day and didn’t get the big money long term deals so guys like Kane Toews, Etc. Were paid for what they did as well as what they will do for the future. Now things have changed a bit and RFAs are getting longer deals with bigger dollar amounts so I think there is a change in the contract structures in the NHL the last couple of years. |

Any word on who Trotz is going with in goal for game 5?
Is it ride or die with Varly, or does Greiss get the nod?

I’m fairly certain Varlamov will be in but don’t really know. |

Varly, no reason why he wouldn’t be out there imho. |
