It's the same thing during the Erik Karlsson draft. If it were not for the foot issues, he would still be arguably a top 5 player in the league. When he was healthy, I would taken him over both Crosby and Ovechkin. - TheUltimateJet
Karlsson is still performing at a steady Norris level. What he lacks now is the exposure of being the lone man standing against the tide of mediocrity in a Canadian market |

The bottom 6 this year actually fared better than the top 6. Eakin strangled the 2nd line, and our top line has been in the red for 2 straight years.
Copp, Lowry, Roslovic, Harkins, Appleton, and Perreault all did a solid job in their roles on the whole - Rexypoo
At a few points this season sure. |

Tkachuk is okay but Hughes is a special talent, he really should've went higher in the draft I agree.
I just see the Jets with some decent and promising defense prospects and almost zero center prospects and actually getting thin on wing prospects, I think they'd be better off drafting for need, just my opinion though. - JetFuel
I completely get it, I want a center taken next month as well. If you think two players are close in talent and potential, then take the position you need but if you have one player as far better overall you have to take the best player.

So, Askarov, the Russian goalie, is supposed to be special. So do you take him if he's available?
I know I wouldn't! |

I can not remember for sure but I thought I read first round draft picks have a 1/5 bust rate.
Just guessing but I’d say goalies are closer to 1/3 in round one of busting, or possibly even 1/2? |

Really? Didn't know that. Wonder if Buffalo might take Askarov? That would be good. My feeling is the Jets will draft a W - either Quinn or Holtz. Said to be not far away from NHL.
As someone else noted, we are getting thin on the wings on the Moose. Vesalainen? The jury is still certainly out on him.

Wing is the easiest position to develop. I would prefer the Jets trade the pick for immediate help at Center. Chevy has had 8 drafts so far and he's only been able to draft one elite Center. I don't see that trend changing. This team should be doing everything to win now, not in 6 years. |

Also don't know if this would be a fair trade but after listening to Kypreos on his podcast, it seems that the Jets would get a major haul for Laine. Got me thinking and I came up with this:
To DET: Patrik Laine, 2020 first round pick
To WPG: Dylan Larkin, Evgeni Svechnikov, Filip Zadina, 2020 second round pick
Just some Ultimate thoughts for Saturday morning... |

In taking the RW, you can set yourself up to deal for the #C hopefully. Would have to trade the big-name RW to get that player though |

To DET: Patrik Laine, 2020 first round pick

I'm not usually in favor of trading the 1st rd pick, but would in this scenario. Trading Laine's, what 5 yrs, for 3 years of Larkin, but I'm down with that. Don't want this announced though until Entry Draft night. Want that anticipation of who we're going to draft with first rd pick.
Like the deal because we're getting that C for now, and a player for the future in Zadina. Would the Red Wings do this deal, getting a proven big-name sniper, still a RFA? |

There are only 3 wingers in the entire league that I consider untouchable: Ovechkin, P. Kane, and Kucherov. Outside of those three anyone can be traded. |

You had my curiosity. You now have my full attention. For a couple reasons.
1: Thats... a deal even I struggle to say no to. I think I honestly might do it, and my selfish reasoning is because there’s no way Detroit as constructed can get the most out of Laine
2: You’re listening to Nick Kypreos talk on purpose? That dude is a pleb. Instant mute on tv |

Anton Lundell at 10. - Rexypoo
He's spoken quite high of and have heard some scouts say he might be the most NHL ready guy in this draft other then Lafreniere, wonder if he'll still be available at 10. |

Don't ever listen to Nick. However, my uncle sent it to me and I ended up listening to it. I wanted to be a good nephew |

I think so much hinges on what else is going on behind the scenes?
I’d say Rossi or Lundell slip how do the Jets not take one??
Does a Team like Montreal love someone at 10 and are willing To flip us 16 and Domi for 10 and Roslovic?
Are the Jets seriously considering a Laine trade where taking one of the pure right wing snipers in Holtz or Quinn then make sense?
Wish I knew these answers. But with how young and locked up our wingers are I’m not the least bit worried about drafting any for the moose.
My organization depth needs looks like;
1. Center
2. Right shot D
3. See 1 & 2
4. See 3. |

How many “elite” centers have Dallas, Calgary, Carolina, Florida, Arizona, San Jose, Los Angeles, washigton, and so on and so on all drafted over the last 8 drafts?
Not more than one and some a big fat zero. My point is, it’s hard to draft to elite centers.
Not making excuses for chevy, just saying they dont grow on trees. |

But hey, I absolutely agree, wingers are the easiest to develop (Probably also because a lot kids drafted as centers move to wing in the nhl) and acquire through trade |

I don’t hate it but Detroit’s center depth is non existent, be pretty hard to trade their only one. Be like us moving Shief for an elite winger. Also, any move with Detroit, I’d love to get Mantha, he may be my most underrated ready to break out to elite status guy. In my opinion |
|

I know there are a lot of big Berdin fans in here and I like him to but
#NHLJets Arvid Holm stopped 40/43 shots sv% = .930 in Farjestad season opener vs Lulea.
Don’t sleep on Holm, he is progressing very nicely!! |

Think you'll see the Wings draft Perfetti the C, so that might, hopefully, make Larkin available.
Yes, Mantha is coming on, but, alas, a winger. |

Not trying to crap on anyone's idea but Larkin is a local kid and likely the Wings future captain, highly doubt they trade him even for Laine. |

Yeah I totally agree, I'm not advocating to draft strictly for need but you put it as I think it should go, if you're looking at a clear cut better player then take the better player but if it comes down to a few choices that they feel are all a similar talent level but they have a clear cut need at a certain position I see absolutely nothing wrong with selecting based on positional need at that point.
If they keep the 10th overall pick they really need to nail that selection, same with their 2nd rounder as this is supposed to be a good draft. |
