I wasn’t around when Berger was blogging. Does he have any sources or is he another Blundell?
Howard Berger

For Colton Parayko, told #Leafs would have to give up Nic Robertson or Rasmus Sandin and a second-round pick. And obviously, unload one of their big forward salaries. It's about roster balance...

so...
Islanders still in it. Good for them.
I just want them to win against Tampa, since it's LOU, and it would even be more comical to read Roger's "NYI suck, Dubas >>> Lou, Komarov, Martin and Nelson have bad contracts, etc.".
Apparently it's ok to talk politics -- CC and Joel and Zezel and others constantly talking about US elections.
Remember when a few weeks / months ago I suggested the Dems plan was to take Biden out just after winning the Presidential elections, and go with Harris + Hillary?
They're not even being secretive about that anymore - with both Harris and Biden talking about the 'Harris Administration'.
What a (frank)ed up country the US is - a third world country loaded with debt, no social security, war-mongering around the world, and not able to come up with 1 (let alone 2 or 3 or 4) suitable candidates for the Presidential elections..
I'm really getting worried about the upcoming elections in the US - because for the world nothing good will come out of that (Trump winning (most possible scenario) would be really bad; and Harris (stepped out of the presidential race last year because she was unable to get any support from the Democratic side!) & Biden would be even worse..).
What a poop-show.
Oh and yes, Nylander will have to be traded (AA, you weren't the only one advocating for this) -- and his return will be kinda ok in Dubas' fans eyes (a high pick, a 'top end prospect' and salary cap space!!) -- but it would be a bad move to not trade him for a player that could instantly play with Matthews on his wing.
An interesting option would be to consider trading Nylander for Monahan or Hertl - if, and only if one of those guys could be a fit on Matthews' wing. Hertl would seem the most obvious option, since it would mean a 1.5mln AAV cap saving as well. A bit older, but clearly a better option for Matthews' wing and for Leafs in general. Maybe the age difference would be a reason for SJ to make that trade, but surely it would be a hard sell for the Leafs. |

I’m still trying to figure out how the islanders got Eberle for a bag of groceries... - dozerD10
Morons labelled him a perennial loser (and said he was given too much $$$ too early in his career). The Oil ended up selling low.
We could very well be discussing how team X got Nylander at such a low price in a few years, and it would be for the same reasons. |

Eberle isn't that good. You are completely right in comparing him with Nylander - I actually made the comparison several times last 2 years.
Ok second line players, but both not essential to a team's success - they have good hands and can contribute offensively, but nothing spectacular (4th/5th FW on most NHL teams). |

Lou brought in Andersen while Dubas thought Sparks was the real deal... I can also point out all the subpar Ufa adds brought in last off-season by dubas (and the dubas lovers (including 'professional' sports writers) all of a sudden writing in Kenny agostino as a sure bet to make the team). And Cody ceci. - MaximusAurelius
sparks was drafted in 2011, long before Dubas
Dubas Brought in Tavares, Lou brought in Colin Greening, anyone can make up stuff for that stupid game

I don't understand why people want to move on from Nylander. if I was a leafs fan, the player I want to move on from is Tavares.
Nylander put up better production this past season (1 less point but 4 more goals) for close to half the price. Nylander is 24 and getting better, Tavares is 30 and has already peaked (and will likely start declining sooner rather than later).
Tavares still has value (although leafs would likely need to take some salary back to move him), but in 3-4 years, when he's almost 35 and not producing, and still making that much.....it will be IMPOSSIBLE to move him.
I suppose since he has a full NMC it's kind of a moot point, it will never happen....but for those people who female dog about what Nylander makes compared to what he provides......i'd be (frank)ing PISSED to have an 11 mil player only putting up 60pts |

dubas kept sparks over mcsavey, a good backup that was interested in staying with the team and had just had a great season. |

I'm actually going to respond to this nonsense.
1. Nylander does not make "close to half" of what Tavares makes.
2. Tavares put up 60 points in 63 games. Would I prefer higher production? Of course. But let's not pretend he has regressed into a 60 point over 82 game player.
3. Tavares has already been payed 42.89 million from his 77 million deal. So 5 years left at total 34 million cash. (6.83 million per year). You bet your ass the Leafs could trade him tomorrow to the Sens or 5 other teams at that $$ value.

other players (skaters) who make 10+ mil:
McDavid - 97 pts
Matthews - 80 pts
marner - 67 (he's been RIPPED by most for sucking this year)
kane - 84
toews - 60 (people have said for a few years now that he's steadily declining)
panarin - 95
eichel - 78
i'm not saying Tavares sucks, he's obviously a really good player, I just don't understand why, when people look at $$ versus production, they aren't more upset with Tavares |

sorry Mr. Semantics, i was rounding.......i'll rephrase, he makes about 6/10 of what Tavares makes (6.9 divided by 11 = 0.62 in case you wanted to check my math)
i didn't say the leafs couldnt' trade him, i said they would need to take a contract back (it wouldn't be Tavares for prospects and picks to clear up 11 mil in cap space)
and i wasn't saying Tavares wasn't good, i was saying that i don't understand why people are upset with nylander's production based on what he makes, but don't mention tavares' production based on what he makes.
Nylander seems to be way better "bang for your buck" than Tavares
one is a 24 year old, ppg player, who makes less than 7 mil......the other is a 30 year old, ppg player, who makes 11 mil |

Last season Tavares was on pace for 34-44-78, which is pretty much exactly on par with his career average.

well, since Snakes has a full NMC and got 5 years left of his contract - it sure is easier to b!tch about players that can be traded if they suck compared to $$. |
