I'd be really reluctant to move out young, cheap skill especially when we don't expect cap growth in a while - Canada Cup
This is what I was thinking as well. |

What are the Leafs needs?
RHD
3C
Big winger to play with 34
Goalie
Only team that can give us “one stop shopping “ = CBJ
Savard
Jenner
Anderson
Merzlikins - mr.sir
Leafs needs are RHD #1 and RHD #2.
Anything else is gravy. |

at the moment they dont need a goalie, they are set with Andersen/campbell
and at 3c, Kerfoot is good. they dont need another one.
now, you can say they may need to look at cheaper Goalie/3c options to fit a better D in, but thats a different thing |

Sounds like we agree for the most part, except I would be willing to buy low on Dumba - mr.sir
With cap space at a premium they can't waste that much space on anything less than a really good fit.

We need a proper shutdown center to play against other teams top lines
Asking Tavares to try to play that role is not ideal |

Possibly should have elaborated. I think the leafs are far more set at LHD than they are for top 6 wingers past Marner and Willie. That becomes even more glaring if they trade Willie for that elusive RHD. |

one thing I saw mentioned is Vegas doesnt really have RHD, just a bunch of lhd, and they are very good.
focus should be on getting another Muzzin type ..but better. maybe can work out the lh/rh thing after |

Id take DeMelo, Dillon, Gudas, and Hamonic from that group. Savard will cost too much, is aging(will be 30 in a few weeks), and needs a new deal after next year, pass.
Dumba really isnt very good. It would have to be a cheap asset trade for him IMO. - Archaic
Dumba to Toronto is dumba...
Would end up overpaying. Also, heard the dummies in Vancity trying to get that guy. He'll fit in over there with the virtue signaling. |

Sure.
But that centreman doesn't matter if Holl is our #1 RHD.
I just don't see the cap space to solve everything, so you focus on the biggest need, which is the defense. |

I guess it depends on the defenseman.
I mean, Muzzin/Rielly would be an ok pairing. But neither wants to play/can play the right side effectively.

So at what price does Pietrangelo stop making sense, huh Mr. Psycho Killer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wke3tdWrd3k - Canada Cup
I was playing around with that the other day too.
Not to get into taxes and poop but if the Blues are rumoured to have 8 x 7.5'ish on the table and AP's preference is to stay there (ie. he'd have to get much more $$ from another team) then the Leafs would have to get to 9.5+ to make him even think about leaving.
That'd be 43 milly on 4 guys. They'd have to strip the depth bare and/or flip Willie for a young top 6 forward on an entry level deal.
Not sure if it's worth it. Although if you like him to remain elite for another 5-6 years then it's pretty good value and opens up the door for Sandin to grow into Rielly's role (trade Rielly next summer?). |

Dermott at 2m> Demelo at 3.5m - mr.sir
DeMelo is definitely 1.5M better than Dermott.
Having said that, i don't think either player gets paid as much as you mentioned (I'm thinking maybe 1.25-1.5M for Dermott, and 2.7M for DD). |

Stevens, Neidermayer, Daneyko, Fetisov...all LHD. Jason Smith was RD. They are pros. Play whatever side you need to. For all the Babs hate, everyone pretty hung up on LD and RD pairs that he wanted. |

The comment was the two guys aren't that good on the right side. My contention is to keep them on their strong side and get complimentary players who aren't going to sink the pairing. |

A good d-man I would agree could play both.
Dermott on the other hand (as an example) could use some time developing as opposed to concentrating on stopping a clearing attempts from his backhand and then getting it onto his forehand |
