For what it's worth, I had read in the athletic a week or two ago that the Blues latest offer was 8 x 8.25

That would put the leafs comparable offer in the 7 x 9.5 range.

Considering the state of the two teams and the increased scrutiny playing in Toronto... He'd really have to want to play for the Leafs bad to sign at a reasonable number.

- joel878

Due to cap constraints, I'm kinda leaning towards trying to get 2 RD at around $4M each instead of putting all of our cap eggs in one basket.

If Rielly and Muzzin had good partners, I'd like to think that's a good enough top 4.

Ya, I've been saying all along that Pietra isnt going to happen in Toronto. But we'll see.
Lebrun did say this morning that many GM's have confirmed that TO is looking for a top end D, hope dubie doesnt get desperate and make a foolish move by overpaying via trade or UFA.

- Fakepartofme

If they can scrum up 9.5 for Pietrangelo... They're far better served signing a Demelo at 3 and trading for a 6.5 million guy to play on the top pair. It's just better allocated money at that point, rather than tying up all those bucks in one guy. Better balanced blueline in the end.

I couldn't agree more. And that's without considering the fallout from giving Pietrangelo that much money when it's time to extend Rielly.

Have to think the management group has learned about the big money investments by now.... No?

Who said that on The Athletic? I saw that LeBrun spoke with Pietro and he said there has been little to no progress.

You have to think if thats what the Blues offerred it would be pretty close. If thats what they offered, he is going nowhere. The most hell likely get on the open market is $8.5 youd think.

Over 300 new cases of the COV' in Ontario today - 64% of those under the age of 40.

New restrictions coming.

Anyone still think we are having 82 games next season?

I dont know why people are giving up on Dermott so early. Lets not pull a typical Leafs move and trade a guy who blossoms into a good player somewhere else.

DeMelo shouldnt cost 3.5M per year. You'd think hell get less this year then that.

- Archaic

My reasons:
1. He hasn't earned a top 4 role;
2. He's a lefty;
3. Leafs need/will add another Top4 D'man;
4. Rielly and Muzzin are left sided D clearly ahead of him;
5. Sandin, another lefty, needs to make the jump and get some development; and
6. Dermott is still a interesting prospect and has value as an asset.

It's not writing him off ...it's about moving assets around to make the team better. I loved Kapanen but assuming they use that Capspace to get a D partner for Rielly then the team got better when they traded him.

I think Pietro would make a significantly larger impact at 8M-8.5M then two dmen at 4M-4.25M, JMO. The Leafs are missing a top pair dmen.

The only nuance would be the expansion draft next summer. Can only protect 3 guys. But honestly, at his Caphit, exposing Muzzin wouldn't be the end of the world.

I think they add 1 guy to start the year ...and role with Holl and the kids at 4-6. Add a rental at the deadline if/when you need an improvement.

Just send $500 back with the signed contract and I'll start making calls

Muzzin has a NMC, so we have to protect him in the expansion draft.

Can neither confirm nor deny ...

I had heard it was 5 x 8.5'ish being offered last week and that little to no movement had been made in weeks.

Then a Blues poster was hear the other day and said the local writers were saying 8 x 7.5 was being offered.

I think the most relevant info that's being reported is that he wants to stay in Mizzou. Blues have the room with one buy out (Steen).

It's tough without knowing whether they're going to be spending less, more or the same for the goalie position.

I'm going to take the same position and say promote from within as much as possible. Bring in one guy on the right side for $4 or 5 and round things out with Sandin, Lehtonen, and Holl or Dermott depending on who you hate less. Depending on what Dermott is asking for, I think he gets traded.

I've said a bunch of times but they brought Lehtonen in for a year, he's their kind of player and can play left and right. I don't see them paying for someone else when they could use that money on a real third line centre.

Exactly.

My fear is 4-4.25 million x2 gets you two Ceci's.

No (frank)ing thanks.

How many ever they can squeeze into a January - June regular season.

Sports have been doing pretty good globally even with numbers rising. Bundesliga going back to fans in the stands soon. Masks ...no drinking ..space them out.

Where there's money to be made/saved they'll do it.

He barely tried. Even when Babs tried different things, he'd give up on them so fast. I think he did it just to say he tried.
- RogerRoeper

You're right.. If I recall, he only tried it for 2 games and with limited practice time.. Babs liked to be right all the time.
