Oh please no...

DeMelo/Hamonic/Gudas are players that should be targeted.. Leafs can't afford Pietrangelo

- PatC80

If Pietrangelo is actually possible, I'd do it over signing lesser guys.

But of those 3 you mentioned, I'd only want DeMelo. Never liked Hamonic and he's only getting worse and Gudas would just be suspended all season here. Also I hate his face.

some draft day trade down scenarios

https://theleafsnation.co...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

if a player slips to 15 that the Leafs like, then use the pick, but I would be fine trading down again if the value was there.

i also like to keep in mind fans like us really have no clue about who will be good/great/elite when picking 15+ ..and GMs/teams are not much better

This is so far out of my realm of expertise (in that I don't have a realm of expertise) - I don't even know what a "suspension" would look like.

Would all players on a suspended team become UFAs? Would the NHLPA be OK with that? Dispersal draft? Then would the team be allowed to come back with no contracts in a year or two?

I'd imagine a bank would be OK with this scenario, as it would preserve some of the value. I can't imagine you'd have too many buyers right now, so bankruptcy would surely mean pennies on the dollar.

I'm wildly spit-balling here.

- Atomic Wedgie

Yeah, certainly no generalizations but there have to be a couple in deep enough trouble that the league will do anything to generate some revenue. I do think some kind of bubble season is the best option if health things remain bad.

Not sure why Toronto fans are so schadenfreude about Kawhi losing.

He won us a championship (thank you) and then he did what we expect every hockey player born in Ontario to do: he went to his home team to try to win them a championship.

- Atomic Wedgie

I think it might have to do with this-

There were obviously other reasons why he chose the Clippers, including and especially his desire to go home, but one of the things Kawhi told the Raptors when he met with them in Toronto last summer, according to a source, was that he didn't think they were good enough to repeat

Ah, OK.

Still haven't watched that show. It's on my list of to dos.

- Atomic Wedgie

Great show. I'm way behind on it now, though.

He might have been saying that as an excuse. Who knows. But he underrated the team if he thought that. I give Masai credit for not giving-up the future and knowing better than Kawhi did.

If the Leafs trade down it better be for a player that steps in and plays on opening night. (who is better than Marincin)

Which I knew was going to occur.
So I have nothing against him.
Moreso the american media who suggested the Raps are nothing without him.

Kawhi also told the Clippers he'd only sign with them if they traded for Paul George. So they did. He was George Paul vs Denver and Lemon Pepper Lou didn't even want to be in the Orlando bubble. I bet Kawhi missed his Raptors teammates Van Vleet, Spicy P, Serge and Lowry.

I believe they had better record without him this year than last year. At least at the midway point they did.
But yes, with Kawhi, they would have easily gotten past Boston....actually had Pascal simply been ok throughout the series, they would have gotten past Boston

Yeah, I think someone reported before Kawhi left that the Raptors asked what the price tag to trade for George was and they wanted Siakam and a few 1sts.

Good thing they didn't do that. Would've been an awful trade.

I'm not sure how this can be right - I'm looking at the NHL website on the draft rules, and one bullet states:

* All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits.

To me, Muzzin will have a NMC "at the time of the draft."

Oh well. I'll just wait and see.

Edit: it may be that the expansion draft looks forward one week - applies everything to the next year of contracts (7 days later) - which would make sense. I don't think you can expose guys who don't have contracts. Not sure if this is a loophole - could you not expose Rielly because he isn't under contract, but then sign him to a contact the day after the draft - before he becomes a UFA?

- Atomic Wedgie

Ya, that makes sense. They are taking the contracts for the following year and not the current year ..so maybe.

Rielly's got two more years. But Hyman and Andersen wouldn't need protection.

For sure.

Siakam was nowhere even close to as good as he can be in these playoffs. If he showed up, Raptors win.

Yup. That's insane. Clippers are so (frank)ed if they don't win a title. They gave up their entire future. Masai didn't panic and knew what he had.

The issue is when you meet with these shoe companies they never want you signing outside the U.S. there's pressure there. That's why Raps can be attractive to euro and African players.

I very much hope he does, but he probably doesn't.

His main reason going there was still going home, and I can't fault him for that. But his evaluation was definitely way off.

If we're being critical of his choices, he should've gone to the Lakers.
