For me it's even simpler. The problem isn't spending 40 on 4 players ..it's that all 4 players are forwards. Need to balance that out and get an elite d'man.

It's been two years and all those guys are just locked in. He tried to trick the system (be creative) last year by adding Barrie on a "great" contract that cost him Kadri. didn't work ...

This year he either has another trick to improve the D and keep the big 4 together or it's time to move one of the big 4 and re-allocate that capspace to the blue line.

If Dubas does get another top 4 RHD, with that team retaining 50% of the salary, it's likely gonna cost one of the big 4. We don't have another Kadri type player to trade.
