Unfortunately, this feels true to me.
I think Petro is staying put. If he needs to, he will accept the contract on the table from the Blues, but is trying to squeeze a little more out of it.
I could always be wrong, but it's just the feeling I'm getting reading all of the news on the subject. - Leafs43
If the Leafs can't afford Pietrangelo, how is Vegas going to?

Lebrun just wrote on Monday how his wife is from St Louis, her family lives there.. They just had their 4th kid, and that does not make leaving St Louis a slam dunk thing to do. In the same article Pietrangelo himself referred to Stamkos signing at the last minute to stay. The entire article was about there being more to free agency decisions than money.
So I'm not sure every insider is saying that... - joel878
PL has reported talks haven't gone well along with what you just said.
It is not looking good and Petro HIMSELF has said it. |

Both teams have no dead weight contracts.
The Blues have Steen, Bozak.

Absolutely not one single solitary word of that are these guys saying he won't be signing in St Louis. - joel878
Never said he wont.
said they are saying talks aren't looking good and looks like he is hitting the open market. |

Right. They have triplets and a child under 1. AP would like to stay in st. Louis and I can see his wife saying for a million less per year why not stay? - Aaron_85
To me it seems he's posturing to stay there and get the best deal possible. But who really knows. |

You think Rantanen and Aho are better players?
And they might be ...I just think the hockey world that GM's work in feels like MM's big points are worth more.
I think we can also assume MM's new contract is inflated by all/some of the 4.8 million in ELC bonus dollars his people firmly believed they were "jerked" out of by Big Lou. It was discussed throughout those negotiations. - The Law
i don't there was a need to pay any of them much more than 8.5m. |

The Leafs can have Steen included in the deal and then LTIR him since he is injured |

LeBrun on TSN1050 says there is no question that Alex Pietrangelo has the Leafs on his radar but whether Toronto can clear enough space is another question. LeBrun suggests perhaps the Leafs should look at a trade to acquire a D, mentions Matt Dumba's name as a possible target.

Darren Dreger on TSN1050 said he thinks Toronto and Las Vegas would be near the top of Alex Pietrangelo's list of preferred destinations if he does not re-sign with the Blues

They have made it insanely obvious that talks have gone horribly. - Santo_44
Ya, but that's not what you said. You said the insiders indicated that they would be "shocked" if he resigned in St Louis.
It seems to me like the player really wants to stay in St Louis - and the GM is fully aware of this fact and using this to their advantage. My guess is that the contract talks continue to go terribly for a few more weeks and then they meet in the middle.

Lol ok.
Yeah.
insiders have never been able to tell if a negotiation is going bad.
Want proof? Petro has said it himself. He said yesterday he is now preparing for change with how bad the talks have been going. - Santo_44
ya they said the talks havent been great.
So what.
All it takes is the right number and he signs back with blues.
Its posturing |

i havent heard any insider say these two are the favourites.
Only that these teams would be really interested and that he would be the missing piece.
Ive also heard them mention the pens as well. - Fakepartofme
Actually insiders are saying the VGK and Leafs are at the top of HIS list.
Not the other way around.

The NHL has confirmed Oct. 9 as the opening day of free agency. That means the Blues and Pietrangelo have less than a month to reach a deal. As I've written recently, there has been no progress. Things can change in a hurry, but it doesn't look promising at the moment. #stlblues

Disappointed about talks
willing to accept the fact that there might be a change
that screams talks haven't gone well, if you are already too stubborn to listen to guys connected to the league. |

Pietrangelo himself has not said that, he has said there may be a time he has to consider going elsewhere.
Talks not going 'well' are not a concrete indicator he is leaving. Not talking at all would be that indicator. As long as they are negotiating there is a chance he resigns there, there's a very realistic chance that is his preference in the end.
It doesn't matter what any of these 'insiders' are saying publicly, it's literally their jobs to farm out news and speculate on it.
Pietrangelo and his family are making the biggest decision of their lives, that's a household conversation at the end of the day, and there's no telling how that goes until it goes one way or the other. |

Believe what you want.
I see a frustrated player because he cant get a deal done with his preferred destination.
Its what you get for signing Scandella and Fualk to stupid deals months prior.
