You have 10 people trying to tell you otherwise... But your mandate is still that you're the only one capable of reading between the lines and someone with a reality check is 'believing what they want'. Jesus man, get over yourself. - joel878
10 people? I see a bunch of people on here posting the same things as me.
I never once said he is absolutely leaving STL.
I said the talks are going bad and until it changes it looks like he is leaving the Blues.

No - you said that insiders were reporting that they would be "shocked" if he resigned in St Louis.
People asked for evidence of that, so you transitioned to "talks are going bad".

From his Athletic article:
It was rumored that Alex Pietrangelo was made an offer recently. Do you know anything about this or possible details? Was it a final offer or will there be more negotiations? — Dane C.
Yes, there have been discussions with some numbers included. One source said the Blues were offering a five-year deal that was closer to $7 million than $8 million.
The belief is that Pietrangelo is not happy with any of the offers he has received and he’s very disappointed in the way things have been handled. Last month, I reported that Pietrangelo was asking for less than what Nashville paid Roman Josi ($9 million AAV), but the Blues hadn’t gone more than $8 million. The feeling is that the captain would settle somewhere in the middle.
I imagine he ends up at 8-8.5 over 5 years. The fact he hasn't told them to go (frank) themselves with that offer tells me he isn't going anywhere. - Leafs43
I'm thinking he's just being shrewd: why tell the Blues to go (frank) themselves before testing free agency? |

He wants to be a Leaf, an insider told me. - Steven_Seagull
Or...
He wants at least 9 million a year so he asks for 10 million.
St. Louis is offering 7 million a year.
He pretends to talk to teams that want him like Toronto and Vegas.
St. Louis ups their offer to 8 million.
And so on and so forth.
It's called negotiation folks. |

Eh... I think he definitely does. This isn't about Dermott necessarily being better than Sandin but rather giving the young pup a legit shot at some meaningful minutes on the third pair. Unless he looks like absolute dogpoop in training camp, I think Sandin will be a lock at the beginning of the season and will be given a long leash.
Maybe they keep Dermott around as 7D or if Sandin/Lehtonen falters but I think he's as good as gone (trade asset). - mjones242
I suppose one never knows, but I have not seen anything ever that would indicate this team would have Dermott ride the press box in favour of Sandin.
Sandin went to the pressbox when Dermott got healthy. |

Yeah I may have stretched it out a bit.
I didn’t mean it like that, I meant it as the quotes I typed out. Which was evidence that talks are going bad and most insiders believe he isn’t re signing with the Blues. |

If I could bet money on it I’d bet the VGK getting him.
Leafs wouldn’t be too far after but given what we have it looks like STL is not a likely destination at this point.
They made commitments to Scandella and Faulk for some reason instead. |

People with families don't make life altering decisions based on frustration that they don't have what they want weeks before a decision needs to be made. JT is on record saying they made that decision the actual morning of free agency.
You are clearly believing what you want. - joel878
I mean, there is the concept of "free will" -- does anyone really have a choice?!

The NHL has confirmed Oct. 9 as the opening day of free agency. That means the Blues and Pietrangelo have less than a month to reach a deal. As I've written recently, there has been no progress. Things can change in a hurry, but it doesn't look promising at the moment. #stlblues
STL well connected insider.
It doesn’t look good man. If this was a leaf player we were talking about we would all be betting on him leaving.
Half the fan base is already betting on Matthews leaving in 4 years ffs. |

What’s the $ difference between them going to be next year? They keep Dermott if they think the upside is still there. If they they think Sandin will develop to point close to Dermott this year and more beyond and they can can get something for Dermott, I think they move him. |

You missed the point by a country mile.
He has many reasons to stay in St. Louis. Other than Tavares, the one exception out of dozens and dozens of other examples, him staying exactly where he is is indeed very likely for a multitude of reasons.
Signing Scandella and Faulk does not disqualify them from signing Pietrangelo. They have multiple players they can try to dump and clear the space. They didn't sign Scandella and Faulk expecting the cap to stay flat. They have to improvise and it's taking them time to work it out. It doesn't mean Pietrangelo is a goner. It just means he's still playing the negotiation game. |

It's a brand new season, they've already burned one ELC year of Sandin's, they need to trim salary where they can, and Dermott hasn't exactly proven himself to be anything but mediocre.
I think all roads point to Sandin being in the starting lineup playing 13-15mins a night.
Dermott is a nice story as he was a 2nd round Leafs pick that actually managed to make it to the show and he doesn't totally suck. But his days are done and Sandin has way, way more upside.
But yeah, wtf do I know*? Maybe Dermott stays and Sandin is packaged up in a deal? Or maybe they think Sandin could benefit from playing huge minutes down in the AHL again (Lord knows why)?
* next to nothing, especially a couple of drams deep |

I don't disagree with you, my position between the two is if they open camp and both are vying for that last spot on the left. I don't see any world where dermott joins the pressbox and Sandin is a regular at that point.
The leafs aren't really positioned as a team who wants to see a teenager develop from learning by his mistakes at the NHL level. If there was an AHL this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sandin start there. Would it be mind blowing if he were to be loaned to a Swedish team to start the season or something? |
