Maybe Yzerman should look into getting the last year of Hossa and his LTIR contract just like Arizona did for Detroit with Datsyuk...at the same time since they don't really have any 1st or 2nd round picks for the next 2 drafts to trade up, they can give us Chychrun for Cholowski for the trouble

This feels like an old Simpsons episode. When Homer found he had a twin brother who was rich and successful. His dad “I kept the wrong one!”

Yeah

Well we did get Hronek out of it too and he had more points this season than Chychrun's career best season. It would be funny if this happened though.

Virtanen is a big body who can score and have him come in at a decent price. and Van will have trouble giving him a decent raise. Offer Cholo for him.....
would think a little around $2.5m x2 should sign him.

I’m all for a low cost trial. Just don’t think Cholo has much “perceived value”. I miss Kooleus. We need his sarcasm to balance us out!

I’d consider it if that would get it done!

I know you’ve been an advocate that we need stronger left side D. Is DeAngelo not an attractive prospect, or is the add on of Smith just too much to deal with? Just honestly curious. I appreciate your head space on this

Gotta pay DeAngelo too much and Yzerman traded him away once for a reason.

Ya know, this really is not all bad, you pair ADA with Dekeyser, play Smith on the 4th line, or 7th D or bury him in the AHL , give ADA a $5M x 2 contract. Because of all the salary that is dumped by NYR you could maybe get away with a 3rd going back instead. or the lowest 2nd .

If you can get Virtanen for like a 5th sure I will take him. But he’s just a bottom 6 winger.

Dumba is overrated and I don’t want that kneeling clown on my team.

The reality is that *IF* the wings were to acquire Virtanen, he would get an opportunity in the top 6 as he'd clearly be the second best RW on the team. Now whether he lives up to that or fails to progress is entirely guesswork. What IS known is that the former 6th overall pick scored 18 goals and got 18 assists this season playing in a bottom six role with the canucks. Some nights he'd play 7 minutes and others he'd play 17 but he was usually in the 13-15 min TOI range. Give him 18 minutes a night on a regular basis and maybe he puts up 25 goals, and maybe he doesn't, but he has value because of his age, pedigree and results last season.

Vancouver will be looking to unload a contract in return. They have a lot of those bloated contracts with NTCs and I don't see anyone looking to move from one of the world's top ranked cities to one of america's lowest, but stranger things have happened.

I think a realistic framework is something like Virtanen and Sutter for Glendening and a 5th. It doesnt jeopardize the wings ability to take on more contracts ala Ladd or Johnson or whomever and it's a low cost gamble for potentially great reward.

Just so I get this straight. You guys think that Virtanen – a player the Canucks don't NEED to get rid of right now, or ever – who scored 18 goals and 36 points playing in the bottoms six, is worth a 5th round pick? After Kapanen, who score 13 goals and 36 points, fetched a mid first rounder?

I can appreciate your thinking on this. Thank you for taking the time to put that together! I love seeing fans process and put together scenarios. It makes my day!

You may be dead on. I felt like Pitt overpaid a bit. A big part of Virtanen's situation is that he has arbitration available. VAN management made their disappointment in his development public, which may just be a hard ball tactic. Teams are doing “internal” cap ceilings with some of the new revenue numbers and a lot of movement is going to be based on cost, not on cap. We’ll see how it shakes out, but I can appreciate your thinking on the value of the player. Thanks for laying that out!

The reality is that the canucks kinda have to trade him for the simple reason if he takes them to arbitration (and he will), he's going to get at least as much as Kapanen. And canucks brass won't walk away from that arbitration award and lose him for nothing, so they'll have to take whatever the arbitrator decides, which means further handcuffing them with salaries they can't really fit under the cap. It means Toffoli walks 100% and *could* impact their ability to resign Markstrom. I think they put their disappointment out in the media to temper expectations of a return. It might be Glendening and a late 2nd/early third going back if they can move out Sutter's cap hit but at the end of the day the canucks are kinda cap (frank)ed. This is one asset they have to move out and take the best return available. Stevie should start low with Glendening and a 5th and go from there.

In what world would Virtanen be better than Zadina?
