A few weeks ago, we were up north and I ran into a tiny convenience store to grab some ice cream.
I had forgotten my mask.
Kid looks at me, politely says I need a mask.
I go into full Canadian mode - apologize profusely, run back out to the car, put the mask on and re-enter the store, apologizing profusely. Pay for the ice cream, give him one more apology for good measure.

yeah I thought about her situation when I was posting here. We had discussed it before.
My dad is a victim of his own stubborness, stupidity, and the environment he is in. When no one around you is willing to take precautions, it is doubly difficult for you to do so.
We have a close friend who has only left her house to go to her parents house. One of the things that is really upsetting her is that the rest of the people in our circle of friends has more or less got on with their lives. She is frustrated with us and also feels like she is the only one who is this scared. - Aetherial
Heartfelt thoughts sent your way, brother!
I've had to scold my Dad a few times over the past few months about social distancing and re-explain what it means to be in a "bubble".
Just last week he went to London to see my cousin's newborn baby. They let him in without him wearing a mask. FFS. They at least asked him to sanitize his hands, but wtf?!
(frank)ing maddening.
I hope your Dad and stepmom are able to make a speedy recovery!

Yes similar here.
Americans are nothing if not selfish. - Aetherial
Here’s the weird thing, most Americans wear masks in stores and businesses and don’t make a fuss about it. Latest poll says about 85%.
If I was going to be political I’d say that one person is pushing an anti-mask agenda for some very weird reason because I’m not sure it makes sense politically.

Well how can you know it's a better system if you haven't tried punches or gunshots?
Maybe you'd like punches and gunshots if you tried it.
I feel like everyone has a part of themselves that love punches and gunshots.

Of course if your parents had named you Karen, your behaviour would have been ore-ordained.

Your friend isn't alone. I do the same and I have friends who are annoyed that I refuse to hang out even "safely". My son doesn't handle respitory illnesses particularly well and even though he doesn't live with me full time I'm super mindful of being safe for him and for whoever else may have similar issues.
My girlfriend on the other hand since we don't live together just goes out and about because we don't currently see one another due to covid and she says "it's okay because I don't have a child with medical issues." It's just bonkers with this mentality.

Yup.
I haven't seen one instance in person of anyone freakin out about being asked to wear a mask.
Although i was in a loblaws and checking out at a self check out when a lady came up to the machine at my right. As i look over a voice in my head said, "oh she has a pretty face:, then another voice in my head interjected with "why the hell can i see her face, where is her facking mask? What the fack is she doing in here without a mask?".
When a third voice spoke up and was like "who gives a fack, you dont know her situation, youre holding up the line @sshole, finish checking out and get back home."
Which i did.

It's like people think the virus went away.
The attitude and behaviour I've seen told me weeks ago a resurgence was coming. People are (frank)ing stupid. - Zezel
Agree completely.
Afterall, here I am, a grown man who was excited to hear about an Asst. Coach hiring and did some research on Malhotra's past coaching experience, did a quick check on Hockey Reference to remind me of his key statistics (like FO% and Selke noms), and imagining how Keefe, Manny, and Hakstol will get along as a unit.
Oh, and this team in question that I so like? Yeah, they haven't won a Cup in 53 years and not once in my lifetime.

I know a few people who aren't taking any precautions, or who think it's because of 5G, or won't take a vaccine. This thing has allowed me to deselect some friends and acquaintances.

Thanks Jones.
At this point, we are all just hoping each day he is not in the hospital is a day closer to being recovered.

Did someone mention Karl Marx? This article from the radical Time Magazine floored me. It talks about a transfer of $50 Trillion from the bottom 90% of US income earners to the top 1% since the mid 70s.
The argument is that from WW2 to the mid 70s, the share of economic growth stayed about the same. Things weren’t equal but they weren’t getting better or worse but everyone was gaining from that growth.
Since then, as a result of government policy, that split has skewed crazily towards the top. If the split had stayed the same, the “bottom” 90% would not have transferred that $50 Trillion to the top 1%.
The impacts on individual earners right now are staggering.

the minute restrictions were let up and people were able to hang out or go out.
Of course an increase was gonna happen.
Just hope it tails off quickly and begins to go down and not continue to go up long term
