The 100 richest Americans have made more than $300 billion during the COVID-19 crisis.
Now, in the middle of a pandemic and economic crisis, Donald Trump wants to give them a $29 billion tax break.
Let that sink in.

the minute restrictions were let up and people were able to hang out or go out.
Of course an increase was gonna happen.
Just hope it tails off quickly and begins to go down and not continue to go up long term - Fakepartofme
Its pretty simple.. Wear a mask, wash your hands and don't get too close to people.. It's not rocket appliance.. People should really think about respecting the virus. |

Did someone mention Karl Marx? This article from the radical Time Magazine floored me. It talks about a transfer of $50 Trillion from the bottom 90% of US income earners to the top 1% since the mid 70s.
The argument is that from WW2 to the mid 70s, the share of economic growth stayed about the same. Things weren’t equal but they weren’t getting better or worse but everyone was gaining from that growth.
Since then, as a result of government policy, that split has skewed crazily towards the top. If the split had stayed the same, the “bottom” 90% would not have transferred that $50 Trillion to the top 1%.
The impacts on individual earners right now are staggering.

Let me guess. The solution to bad government policy is a larger government and more government policy isn't it?
Also, these gains are predictable given the emergence of technology. One person can now create an app or social network and become a billionaire.

Yup, he said that the Leafs are not going to be happy that Buffalo got Staal because Staal has scored 1 goal against Toronto in the past 4 seasons.. |

You most certainly can. When they have taxable income.
If you're argument is that billionaires are hiding money in offshore accounts and not paying tax at their appropriate tax rates - then I agree with you and we should be closing loopholes that allow those billionaires to do that.
If your argument is that you somehow deserve money for someone else's creation or idea (Above the amount that they are already required to pay in tax). Then no, I don't agree with you. |

Serious question:
How would that work?
I guess people could be compensated if they generate large percentages of screen shares, but not sure how you'd compensate for personal data.
These media companies are a weird mental exercise for me, because we participate voluntarily.
Hell, should we be compensated for Hockeybuzz? Users provide 99% of the content. |

I think you've missed the original point.
These billionaires are paying far, far less than they would have in the 1960s. That's in part what is causing such large wealth discrepancies in society.
I blame this all on Reagan, who sold the lie of trickle-down economics. It's never worked, and it never will. It just slowly ruins society. |

No, this is apparently a Raptors-related question he (probably? not sure) asked of Masai Ujiri - which some (including a TSN anchor) are suggesting was thinly-veiled racism.

I know a few people who aren't taking any precautions, or who think it's because of 5G, or won't take a vaccine. This thing has allowed me to deselect some friends and acquaintances. - Zezel
Based on what?
I wrote the post yesterday on this - but depending on their motives and reasoning, you should not write them off directly.
(Disclaimer - I think unnecessary, but you never know? - I am very much pro vaccines of course).
N.B. happy to have a talk on this on here - but there are a few issues with the 'frontrunner' vaccines that are being pushed by several developers and governments (us, Russia amongst others). |

The original point was that income inequality is increasing due to the share of income growth being disproportionate. Taxes were not even really mentioned originally, it was all about the growth in income and where/who that income is attributed to.
Again - This is all predictable with the increases in technology. Technology businesses can be scaled quickly with minimal investment, which means fewer people need to be involved to create a massive company. |

Have to just add one additional point though: taxes go to governments, not to the middle class and poorer people.
In most countries, the tax rates for general public have stayed roughly the same, while a lot of public services (healthcare, infrastructures, public transport, energy, education etc) were privatised. Less costs to gov't programs, but yet 0 tax breaks.
People can vote in New gov'ts, but there will always be a big problem with big bureaucracies (gov't employees staying in their positions independent of elected officials) blocking any changes.

to use the sites is "free", they just came up with a way to monetize them.
using all your personal data and internet data to push ads your way.

Only if you didn't read the article.
Let me help.
"No, this upward redistribution of income, wealth, and power wasn’t inevitable; it was a choice—a direct result of the trickle-down policies we chose to implement since 1975.
We chose to cut taxes on billionaires and to deregulate the financial industry."
It then goes on to list a bunch of other things, but my point remains. |
