I think it does. Having that big number one RHD who can play 24 minutes a night has a bigger impact than Boeser would. Factor in the potential openings for Hoglander or Podkolzin (when he comes) to step into some big minutes to replace some of the offense as well. - NewYorkNuck
I disagree, and you can’t factor in anything, nine times out of 10 draft picks don’t work out, just because you pick them doesn’t mean they’re going to be NHL players, history shows that. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, as they say |

Haha, we're not factoring in a random unknown undrafted pick. We're factoring in players who they know and can translate their skillset and points across. |

Goals for the upcoming year
- build on playoffs
- remain flexible for 2021-22 season
Miller Petey TT/Boeser
Pearson Bo TT/Boeser
Bottom six
Hughes xxx
Edler xxx
xxx Myers
Benn
Demko
xxx
Forward
- Give top six time together - I think their numbers will be strong as a group and all play relatively strong 200 foot games now
- Build bottom six from within organization - add youth and subtract vets as deals expire over the next two years.
Defense
- Love Tanev but time to move on unless he will consider a one or two year deal.
- I expect there will be a number of serviceable players available this offseason given the uncertainty and tight budgets. The team should play possum until later in the offseason i.e. be patient and sign or trade for one or two quality 3/4 dmen later in the offseason (one year show me deals).
- Build from within - give young guys every opportunity to take the 5/6 D position.
- given the young stars in place, I expect there will be some players willing to bet on having a good year next to Hughes.
Goalies
- Love Marky but if he wants AAV, term and expansion protection (or just expansion protection) then it is time to move on. Demko is the right age and pedigree to grow with current group.
- Trade for or sign a solid vet to a 2 year deal
- time for the team to evolve from relying on the goalie as much as they have in the past few seasons
Beyond the current players listed above, trade whoever to achieve a stable lineup. The players brought in don’t have to be game changers just reliable players that work hard and can support the stars. |

I really really hope they stay away from TT. - LeftCoaster
He has very strong underlying stats on some pretty awful LA teams, add that to the fact that he is a good fit for Petey and I think a four year deal makes sense. Won’t be crushed if he doesn’t sign however. |

This is fine and seems to be the Canuck's plan. Though Tanev seems to be the most workable of all the UFA's for them why they are leaving him for last to fit in. |

If Marky leaves, Vancouver should be an attractive spot for the other FA goalies available. |

Interesting State of the Union address from Bettman . Pretty much said We Don't Know. |

He’s going to want a seven year term minimum, for security, imo anything less is just fans dreaming. His last chance to cash in, he’s a declining player that’s not going to pass the opportunity up. My opinion. |

So the next season update from NHL is they will have one and a full 82 games too. Path toward attendance. Target date still Dec. 1 but fluid.
My guess from the speculation Bettman gave they will start with bubbles and go to social distancing attendance at some point. But its a sh1t show in the USA. if they have a change by the time they do anything substantial it won't be enough to get back to normal for 2021. |

Edler and Myers scenario all over again - VANTEL
When Edler was 27/28, TT’s age, he signed a six year 30 million dollar deal to stay in Vancouver. At 29 Myers signed a five year deal in Vancouver. You’re saying minimum five or six years? |

I think that’s kinda normal for UFA guys in that age range. Especially ones as good as Edler was back then. |

I don't mind . Same advantage or disadvantage to both teams. I think they want to get it over with.
I was listening to IMac this morning he feels after talking to players they would never agree to bubble again. - VANTEL
Bo Horvat said he probably wouldnt do the bubble again.

Toffoli? He can keep dreaming. 5 year is his best case scenario and whichever team gives him 5 years is going to have the pleasure of seeing him play for them when he gets even slower.
3 years is the most I'd go, I just hope JB doesn't offer more than 4 years. |

Agree with most of this, as noted above, I walk away from TT for sure if he's demanding 5 years.
Especially agree with two of your points.
1. Giving younger players a chance instead of acquiring more declining vets, the bottom 6 needs to get younger/cheaper/faster for this team to take the next step.
2. Staying patient and leaving wiggle room with the cap to take advantage of good value via free agency/trade later in the offseason. Especially since the Canucks are viewed as an upcoming young team, a good quality veteran player who didn't get the contract he wanted early in free agency may just sign with the Canucks to prove themselves. |

Ya definite no if he is expecting a six or seven year deal.
This year is different though, deals in past years have been based on the assumption that the cap will continue to go up. Many expect the cap to remain flat for four years (estimate). Given the impact the pandemic had on businesses dependent on crowds, certain teams will be tight with their wallet. I think a lot of players would be smart to focus on solid AAV for four years and then look to plan on re-signing in four years when the economics have hopefully improved.

Ya I’ve been researching UFA deals, he’ll most likely get at minimum five years. |

Someone posted the other day a rumor of what they were offering Marky and TT. From Benning's comments on Marky testing free agency, it seems like they're sticking to what they're offering and not budging. I think the rumor to TT was 4.75 x 4?
All speculation, though. |

Even though I think in the short term Markstrom and Toffoli would make the Canucks better, I don’t think they have a Cup contending team, be patient in the process. Trying get rid of older player contracts, like now, shouldn’t be something they continually do. |
