Can they buy him out if he's currently on LTIR?

If he is on LTIR no, and there is no need to buy him out if he is on LTIR. I am saying if he declares himself fit they will buy him out.

Not likely this happens by Friday like the question was presented.
Yup. - dbot
His actual salary is 2.4 this year so they only save 1.6 and still have a cap hit of 1.76

Benning met with his agent and he has declared himself fit to play. He currently is not on LTIR

2.5 Mil to buy him out . Cap savings buying him out 1.6
1.7 Mil to send him to Utica.Cap savings sending him to Utica 1.1
You actually give him a raise by buying him out.

Yeah though JB is probably not going to make any moves until his UFA offers play out.

I dunno.
To me, it's boom or bust for Ferland.
Either he
is fit to play and could be that middle 6 PWF player we need (especially since JV is getting traded) or....
He's unfit to play and is on LTIR.
The latter scenario seems far more likely given history.
TB tried speedbagging Heiskenen and Perry and someone else jumped in right away. That is what wins not standing around watching it.

This has been such a weird playoffs ...so many teams getting outshot badly and winning ...is it the bubble ?

I wouldn't trade BB for a top four Dman unless that player was young and had some serious upside. At least not straight up.
I've mentioned trading him for the right player on D since his rookie season so it's not an attachment, just make a good trade.
He's still a valuable player and his value is going to grow IMO.
I'm not against trading him at all, just think there will be many players available that typically aren't and he's one hell of a chip.

Also, not a fan of the 82 game schedule.
It's clearly born out of greed.
As a player, I wouldn't agree to anymore than 70. Even less if there's some kind of bubble without family.
I don't see a need to rotate cities often if they do it right, unless they're trying to spread money throughout different areas. Theoretically they can travel "in a bubble" and have private teachers in place for kids etc.
As a union member i'd want a work/life balance. I don't think 82 games with a condensed schedule and even limited travel allows that considering the late start/carryover.
