I can’t believe Tampa’s defense includes Luke Schenn, Zach Bogosian and Kevin Shattenkirk and they made it to the Stanley Cup Final on top of being the best team in the league. I mean, they’re just missing Wade Redden.

I don't even view them as core or whatever you call the main pieces of a contender. G and V are on the backsides of their contracts and less effective, older players. That's how long term contracts can go. JVR is yet to show main piece consistency in the league. Maybe they'll produce more next season but they need to provide good leadership and consistency.

To me the real "core" are the young players, Couturier, and Hayes.
