I don't even view them as core or whatever you call the main pieces of a contender. G and V are on the backsides of their contracts and less effective, older players. That's how long term contracts can go. JVR is yet to show main piece consistency in the league. Maybe they'll produce more next season but they need to provide good leadership and consistency.

To me the real "core" are the young players, Couturier, and Hayes.

Agree with that. And in cap world can’t pay players that much that aren’t core. Maybe 1 can be squeezed in. Definitely not 3. And when you start adding things like ghost contract for frequent scratch or tying roster spots up on bust like Patrick players equals mediocrity
