Sounds a bit like Boeser - NewYorkNuck
True, although he isn’t expensive and he’s only 23, the moral of the story is tying up money in an older 7 million a year, one-dimensional player, like JVR, who he was referring to, isn’t a luxury teams can afford. That’s why I think Toffoli at four years is a bad idea. |

TT at least plays a solid 200 foot game and is a good passer. I think a guy like Laine is a better fit for that judgment than Boeser or TT. |

True but it would be very costly. Islanders are suppose to be a leading candidate for Laine.

Toffoli’s game is definitely more well rounded, however, Boeser is better offensively over the past three seasons in both goals, 71 vs 61, and assists, 85 vs 64. Plus he’s five years younger. |

Totally agree – but the initial thing you posted was about offense-only guys being a "expensive luxury".
I think Boeser is fine, a great complimentary player for the team and organization. However, if he was to be traded for an equally young, equally impactful RHD, I would understand. |

Laine would be dynamite with Matthew Barzal, who’s a great passing center. |

I think you took it out of context, the article was about older, expensive, costly, one-dimensional players like JVR being an expensive luxury. In free agency. None of those things are Brock Boeser.
Also, he’s not a complementary player, he was tied for 4th in team scoring playing twelve less games than everyone above him. He’s very much a part of the primary offence. |

Complimentary is in – what I said before – he's not the primary driver. He needs someone to find him/create space for him. He's an amazing third wheel. |

The lets trade BB talk sounds so much like Hall for Larson. You build around core and make package trades to pick up the one good missing need.

He also cost 2.5 mil more than Pearson who did not get top PP minutes. He also scored 9 more points than Jake who was 4.5 mil cheaper.
As far as staying healthy that should not be a negative . 5.9 is expensive for a 45 point player. |

That was just a terrible trade. Think more Ryan Johansen for Seth Jones. |

As I’ve said before, I’m ok if anyone not named Pettersson or Hughes is traded if the deal makes the team better, however, if you actually looked at the Canucks primary offensive drivers, he’s definitely one of them. Pearson is a complimentary player.
Of his 29 assists, 14 were primary assists, 5th on the team behind Pettersson 25, Miller 25, Hughes 23 & Horvat 20. 80% of Pettersson’s assists were primary, 73% for Miller, 70% for Horvat, 67% for Boeser and 58% for Hughes.
Those five guys drive the offensive bus for the Canucks, because they’re the most talented.
What is or isn’t a complimentary player is in the eye of the beholder I guess...imo he’s very much a driver of the Canucks offensive. |

There’s a reason for that, Pearson not getting top power-play minutes, because Boeser’s a much more talented player. Thus he makes more money.
Also, his 5.875 million dollar salary was based off his 55 and 56 point seasons, which is average for that production. |

IMO it wasn’t a good trade, or a nothing trade, for either team because neither team has won jack poop with those players. Winning is the only thing that matters, everything anyone has ever done, good bad or indifferent, is meaningless unless you win. |

If it is Jake at 3 or Brock at 6 I would look hard and long before deciding.
People think of Brock as the person that blasted a one timer past Price in the ASG when in fact his one timer has dropped off quite a bit. He looks to pass more than he shoots now.
I am not being negative towards him I am just open to moving him if there is a good deal and I am also okay if he stays. |

Brock got dropped to third line duties a few times this year , I don't remember that happening to Pearson ? |

Green mixes lines its not about dropping if you aren't playing with Petey. Its asset relocation for maximizing current conditions on team performance. Just take the averages and then you can classify someone like top 6 or top 6 potential like BB and JV for example. |

If he wants to spend the best years of his career on a team that's going to be a bottom 5 team, go for it.
1 mil a year versus the chance to play for a Stanley Cup? |
