They can add toughness without including a knucklehead like Kassian. He is a bigger Zac Rinaldo. On the edge of a major penalty anytime he steps on the ice. - mickel25
I would like boroweicki as a depth d man. Besides trades not too much out there for toughness that can play. |

7 of 8 of the picks Hextall made have played in the NHL already. Sanheim, Provorov, TK and Farabee are regulars. 50% are regulars on a playoff team. Rubtsov seems to be the only real miss. O'Brien may end up a miss. Patrick and Frost have the skillset to be NHL regulars. NoPa needs to stay healthy. Frost just needs to add bulk.
As for the later rounds. The 2014 draft has 3-5 players that have already played in the NHL. This includes Lindblom and NAK. 2015 is 2 out of 7. 2016 3 of 9 including Carter Hart. 2017 and 2018 are 0 for 13. Makes sense though as generally later picks take a few years to develop. 8 out of 34 have played in the NHL. I would say that might be better than average. - mickel25
5 of the 8 are nhl regulars right now. Nothing wrong with that. I include Patrick as he would certainly be an nhl regular.
Whether he is better than average after round 1 I do not know. Doesnt seem to be as he doesnt stand out. Just because they played a game or 2 doesnt mean that pick is a success. |

I meant he goes overboard like Rinaldo. Rinaldo is not a regular player. - mickel25

The four I mentioned as regulars are two top six forwards, a number one D-man and a top 4 d-man. I'll take that in any 5 draft span. |

Rangers did not have a first round pick from 2013-2016. So I do not think they were worth including.
Columbus draft picks from 2014-2018
Sonny Milano LW
Werenski D
Dubois-LW
Foudy-C
Two top 10 picks. Who you got? Flyers or CBJ? |

Every team except the flyers obviously hit on every one of their picks. Just look at Boston’s rebuild year when they had three first round selections in a row. Changed their franchise forever.
Hindsight is 20-20. Years past I know I’m glad they didn’t pick who I wanted. For I think 4 years, Patrick was expected to go 1 at overall. Hischer rose quick that year. Patty had a hernia I think. We have also drafted lindblom in the 5 th round, have signed two undrafted players in Myers and zamula. How does that look now. Yes O’Brien was a flyer (no pun) but we had the ability to take a chance. And he is still young with time to develop more.
There have been a number of star or excellent players who have not gone high. While it is a science. It is not always precise. |

Going into coots draft year he was widely considered to go #1. Then got mono and missed a lot of games and dropped to 8 in draft. Unless elite can’t use being considered 1 as too much. Patrick was sliding for a reason. Had philly not taken him at 2 he waouldve slid to at least 4 or 5 maybe later. Which means other teams didn’t have him in top 2. Flyers played it very safe with that pick. Moving from 13 to 2 in draft they should’ve been swinging for the fences. The home run swing was very clearly from ALL reports maker miro or Petterson. They ALL projected as very likely game changing players. Instead they took sliding player with slight injury history that was projected to be good 2 way 2nd line center that could fill in top line here and there. I was in Chicago at the draft just praying hexy threw that curveball and took miro. It is what it is now. Cut bait and see if someone thinks he can come back from fake migraines and get what you can. He’s a shell of a player now. We should know that. |

Thats great. Have other teams also found success in the 5,6, or 7th rounds or free agents?

My real point here is that Hextall did a great job filling the cupboards with good prospects. That is exactly what the Flyers needed. Hell they needed to do that for 20 years.
Will it result in a title from the base group he assembled? I certainly hope so. I am sure there are moves he made that can be nitpicked. He wasn't perfect.
However, he is no longer here. Hopefully, Chuckles can build from what he was given. |

until these good prospects actually make it as an NHL regular I will hold of on my praise. Great job in the 1st rd. Lets see how the rest pan out. |

"I agree. Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Konecny, Lindblom, Hart, Farabee and Frost. Just horrible. This team is going no where with these players."
Fair point, however is Provorov as good as we thought he would be so far? Hart is great so far for sure. Konecny is OK, not sure I would hang my hat on him yet. And everyone else you mention has still a lot more to prove before you can say they are good or not. Frost cannot even make the lineup yet.
"Can you predict for me the score of game #2 of the Cup finals?"
Sure .. 5-2 :-)

I lived through the Eric Lindros concussion nightmare ... and unfortunately I see the same thing playing out with Patrick. He could be 1 hit away from ending his career, and furthermore he might decide to end it on his own before that happens. |

That’s always been my problem with JVR, Bill. He just looks like he’s cruising out there and taking in the sights. Give him Mike Richard’s heart and hustle and you’ve got an All-Star. He’s extremely frustrating to watch. |
