You know what would help even more to squeeze games into a condensed schedule? Triple-headers.

Second game of the double header is played 6 on 6 without a goaltender.

My theory...Ek and his sources totally misinterpreted the previously reported story of back-to-back games in the same city. Somehow they believed this meant 2 games in 1 day. And they reported it. Anyone with knowledge of the game should know that the physical toll is immense and something the PA would never agree to. Alas...

This idea was most likely a brain freeze of a rich owner that never played a game of hockey in their life. After all they play 18 holes of golf so why can't these players play just 2 games.

Screw it. Finish it all up in 41 nights. Double-headers all 41 days.

I think that's the key....there is zero chance the NHLPA would ever agree to something like that.

With a flat cap for the next few years, and with the current health crisis, doubleheaders make sense and can create a playoff type atmosphere, especially if we revert back to playoffs within divisions first. You would also need to be able to expand roster call up rules to cover a potential increase in injuries with a shortened season.
The AHL currently does back to backs due to costs associated with travel and it works fine..

There aren't any circumstances whatsoever where double headers make any sense.

Once you hit 30ish, as a former player who was always in tip top shape, recovery starts to become a factor. A factor that back to back games would affect my physical dynamics of the game.

Double headers are a bad idea that's counterintuitive to player safety. Especially the vet's. This is totally a corporate move and I can't see the NHLPA agreeing to this bs.
