The only reason Sids cap hit is lower is because he was able to be given a 12 year deal. After that the league capped the max years at 8.
- 668710

I mean, Sid could have got a heck of a lot more than $8.7M his whole career, he left a lot on the table for the duration of 12 years.

I think the contracts Malkin and Letang signed were fair for both team and player. Point being though, do they want to chase a max contract tobthe highest bidder at this point or will they take a roll into retirement discount?

Like Malkin could probably go on the market and get a 3/$10M aav contract. Would he forgo a bit to stay with the Pens?

I can't believe this idiot RW has the audacity to praise PGA 2K21. It is the worst golf game ever made, including the ones with the (frank)ing rolly balls at (frank)ing bars.

There is no player progression, no career progression, no professional players to play as. It is exactly the same as realistic as every other PGA game ever made, there is still shot boost and post hit ball spin. TW had course creator in 2006...15 years ago...and RW thinks it some new feature? WTF?

The game is strictly a money grab because a new one hasn't came out in 3 years. It is the JJ of PGA games.

I was never a big video game person once I hit my teens, but I loved the NHL games for Genesis (I know how old that makes me sound).

Every now and then though I go online and find NES emulators and I'll Mike Tyson's Punchout and the OG Mario Bros.

Anyone who has the Athletic should check out Jesse Marshall's new piece on JJ. It's pretty awesome.

Just saw a tweet from the Atlantic saying "Bryan Rust has emerged as the Penguins' best trade chip as rival GMs continue to ask Jim Rutherford about him."

He better not trade Rust.

You're good with it until it's happening, then not so much. I just can't believe that if a team gave you a decent offer for Letang you wouldn't take it. A 33 year old hasn't been good in the playoffs since 2016. Three bad years in a row and ,of course, 2017 when he watch his teammates win him another ring.

Crosby is a generational player who should play his whole career with the Pens. Malkin to a lesser extent. Letang? Nowhere near those two.

Nah. I watched plenty of dark years prior to Crosby. I know what I’m signing up for. And it’s worth it.

Many people forget some of us younger people (30yrs old) were welcomed into hockey with a team that was terrible. Many of us will literally cry the day these hall of famers retire but heavens it'll be nice to go to games again.

I just read that one as well and this is wha I mentioned yesterday and the day before that and the day before that... My concern is that instead of JJ or Horn getting moved that Rust or Petts gets moves and it seems they could be heading in the direction.

Now, the article in no way states JR is shopping him; he's not, but teams are calling and he is open to moving him if they can get a quality nhl-ready player and a good prospect. The other rationale is that they feel Horn can take his spot and also since McCann is re-signed that they have the personnel to juggle things around in the top-six.

Two caveats: They're in no rush to break up Rust and Malkin because of their chemistry and fear of taking another winger away from Malkin. The other is that while they're prepared for McCann to be 3C, they're still open to acquiring someone else to be 3C and letting him play wing.

The best part: The Pens want Tanev who currently wants upwards of $5M, but they're hoping they can convince him to take less and by less I mean around $4M because of the cost of living and playing with his bro.

Everyone else can put the pieces together of the potential disastrous mismanagement that's about to insue.

As someone like myself who isn't big in fancy stats the one I do fixate on is the tracking of entries/exits. IMO it's one of the most important ways to evaluate players impact on a team's transition game and more specifically, defensemen. His article does a deep dive on this and his impact on his teammates in order to identify the best type of dman the Pens should target to place next to him.

Basically, we need a true top-four dman next to him to mitigate his shortcomings. No shocker, but in the entries/exits area he not only ranks as worst on the team by a large margin, but one of the worst in the league.

Yohe & Rossi have a joint article today that says teams are calling on Rust and he is our best trade chip. Says they don’t want to move him but if package is significant they will give it serious thought. And that as the offseason gets closer there is a growing sentiment he will get an “offer too good to pass up” (NHL ready player and top prospect).

Also says he is trying to open cap space to make a run at signing Chris Tanev.

This is the 3rd time so far I have heard Chris Tanev as a Penguins target. I think there may be a truth to this.

Where there's smoke there's fire. I can't wait for them to trade Rust so they can make room for Tanev's $4M contract to play 3rd RD. Awesomeness.

I do have to wonder what Rust could bring us. I do like Rust as a player because he always works hard. He is kind of a hot and cold player though. We would be selling high on him. I guess the only question is who is coming back in the trade?

Hahaha I know I am not the biggest fan of this myself. If we get Tanev for the 2-3 million range in a 2 year deal I would be ok with it. I could see JR doing his normal overpayment.. Plus he hasn't been the best with making deals this offseason so I could see him trading rust and adding a hole in our top 6 with the thought of Hornqvist moving up to the top 6.

Moving Rust makes ZERO sense. I don't care about the package. The Pens have the closest thing resembling a true top-six as a team like them can hope for in the salary cap era. Moving Rust means Horn will get bumped up with either Sid or Geno and we all know that doesn't work anymore.

If we were lucky they'd get a legit 3C for him, but I'd personally rather keep McCann at 3C than move Rust and create another revolving door in the top six.

Doubt they get anything better than Rust by trading Rust. Rust has grown into a fairly paid 20g/20a, effective top 6 winger that can also PK and PP when given the chance. Unless their goal is to go after Hall or Hoffman, and even then in not sure that’s the right move given their ages and soon to be aav compared to Rust.

Ugg... already had to deal with all the McCann trade talk... now were talking about Rust. These should be the kinds of players that form the Pens identity. I am against this idea.

I can think of a few semi-plausible scenarios for a Rust trade:

1. Package Rust with Murray for a huge return -- Like I'm talking getting Byram or Newhook out of Colorado. Or like Timmins + Burakovsky... Nurse + Puljujarvi... or something. I dunno throwing poop against the wall here...

2. Trade Rust to a "transitioning" team for an equivalent (but older) player + something. So like Rust for Palmieri + Wood/draft pick. My thinking is that Palmieri isnt in NJ's long term plans... so they get the younger, cost-controlled asset... that they can then flip for something good again in a few years.

3. Package Rust to get rid of deadweight. (Please dont let this happen). Sure we could rid ourselves of JJ/Horny or whatever bad contract... and sure we could sign Toffoli or someone in free agency with freed up space. Well hey im almost talking myself into it...

4. Trade Rust for a big time 3C. So, maybe someone like Henrique/Domi/Backlund/Danault. Other parts involved but you get the idea.
