Would he go on Malkins wing or be the 3rd line center?
- nateca444

I'd think 3c. If Rust did go for someone like Domi, I'd be trying hard to get Puljujarvi out of Edmonton for Murray. If Rust is going out it would be great to get a guy who still has some major upside that can fill a RW spot.

McCann-Domi-Tanev would be one hell of a 3rd line.

The only plausible yet unrealistic way I could see Rust traded is either paired with Murray in a crazy blockbuster deal for a comparable RW or with an almost as unrealistic discussion of us signing Pietrangelo and trading Letang in a deal for a RW and Rust in another deal maybe with JJ. Idk why they would trade Rust. He actually has a reasonable cap hit could play and excel in a top 6 role and if JR for whatever reason picked up a star RW could still bump Rust to 3rd line RW and he could still excel there. Rust seems the most unrealistic to trade.

For whatever it matters, Im trading JJ for whatever I can. Someone that really wants Murray will take JJ. A guy can hope right?

I think that is the dream scenario. Even if it only netted us a low pick. I could take JJ moving out as a win for us in a Murray trade.

Who would want an average to below average goalie that bad that they would also take on the worst player signed to an nhl contract?

Would you be saying that he's an average to below average if he won 2 cups for Detroit? Can you truly answer that without being a homer?

Why would I value a player based on what they did 4 years ago?

Quite a few of us Pens fans around here believe him to be average...and he won 2 cups for us.

Also since when am I a homer lmao? Everyone on Detroit sucks and there’s no potential superstars anywhere to be seen.

Well, you guys are close to being rid of bad contracts, younger guys coming up and being ready to build around them. All you need to tie it all together is Matt Murray.

Step 4: Team floundering at the deadline because the blue line is a mess despite Johnson’s stellar play on the top line propping up Leturnover: Panik.

Trading for Richard Panik to save the season sounds like a GMJR move.

I'll see myself out.

But think of all the puns!!!

JR signs him and headlines read: "Ok, It's officially time to Panik"

That's just a taste!

Ok, super random...

If the Pens could rid themselves of JJ by adding him to a Murray trade and the only return the Pens get is a 5th round pick, would you do it?

Absolutely. Not even a question lol the Pens are instantly improved because of it.

Yeah, I truly don't see why you'd move him either. He can play any role and either wing.

I also don't really want to move McCann. I don't "love" him as a center, but think he'll continue to improve and be good value too.

If only we didn't trade away Kahun...he'd be a nice winger on on that third line and make Hornquist even more disposable. Although...I do like PH and I like his game. Just that the contract could be split between two, good, third liners. And, I feel that there are decent "net front" style players in that price range.

That Kahun trade was awful. They didn’t even retain either of the players traded for. So bad.

Yeah. Domi could replace Hornquist. But, with Domi at least he "can" play center. But, it's just like McCann. They're both OK at center, but much better at wing.

Honestly, it makes me question whether moving Bjugstad to save 2 mil was worth it. It's not like we can get a better 3rd liner for the money saved.

I mean, yeah, it allows us to lock up the guys we have. But, I feel like Hornquist has a MUCH higher value if we retained a little. And, I don't think we would have needed to retain 2 mil. If a contender who needs a PP boost (Nashville) could have gotten him at around 4 - 4.5 mil we would have had an actual return and have kept a legit 3 line center. Oh well.

It really was completely pointless. Trying to catch lightning in a bottle with Sheary?

Also, Evan Rodriquez, though not flashy, still has a bit of room to grow and seems to be quite capable. I understand going after Kaps, but I feel we could have kept Rodriguez as a solid 4th line option.

Yep! In a second. And, we know that there are GM's that want Murray because of those two cups...regardless of everything pointing to him being an average NHL starter.
