He'll be costing the Devils $250K annually until 2025 either way - Durwood
He will cost the Devils $ 250,000 in cap space (recapture) until 2024-25. It will cost nothing in actual dollars. This is because of a $3M dollar difference in his actual salary and his average cap hit for the time the contract was in effect. We received the $3M cap savings while he played so we have to pay that back over the balance of the contract (12 years remained). $3M/12 years=$250K/year.

LOL why would NJ want him back? Besides what he did to them, why would they take an aging vet like that? I don't think he came back either to mentor at his age. IMO he would help a contending team on the 2nd pp unit and maybe 3rd line LW or 2nd line if needed. Personally. I hope no one wants him. He doesn't deserve to win a Cup after what he did to NJ then magically come back to the league 5 years later.
Kovalchuk can sign with the Habs and Devils. Double headers are happening. Play 1 game with the Habs and 1 game with the Devils.
Take me out to the Habs game
Take me out there's no crowd
Buy me some Bruins with no Pastrnak
I don't care if the Nords never come back!
Cuz it's root root for Max Domi's team
If the the Devils don't win it's a shame
For its 1 2 3 strikes you're out at the old Kovy game! - gergeswillems

That would be a Hell of a pick up. Got a soft spot for Russians, I was married to one for a while. She flew down and we wed, Damn near a year to the day later she up and left me for man her age. Oh well, it’s only money, she made some damn good onion soup though.
Is there a bad trade to be had? Why! Yes says David Polie.... I have a player with a nice new Norris trophy that I would happily give you for your leftovers.

Why did I acquire Johansen, Duchene and Turris? Seth Jones I really miss you. I'll go in my time machine and run around the Spectrum in 1966. I'll soon be starring in the next X-Men movie. "Days of Flyers Future Past." I'll be playing the role of "Poileato." I can move players around with my mind. My Preds will be playing in double headers next season. Ek told me. I better sign or trade for a goalie. Me and Pekka Rinne are the same age. Thanks Paul!

What happened to Poile? Did he have surgery or something?

Too many laps running around the Spectrum in 1966. Poile teleported himself to 2020 and tried trading for Malkin so he could be The Man in Nashville. Jimmy Rutherford went all Chuck Norris on him after Poile refused to take Jack Johnson back in a trade. Jimmy used to be a goalie. He's older than dirt but still has those quick reflexes. He was quite the baseball player too apparently. He played in many double headers back in the day.
Kovy had a great run in Montreal...short very sweet and maybe even helped the youngsters...but if he comes back....it might mean that the Habs off season plans didn't go as planned...that would suck more.
I would rather see Ken Daneyko and Scott Stevens back on D both aged 56 then bring Kovalchuk back....I wouldnt even want him back at Prudential Center as a vendor...he would probably leave in between the first and second period and take the beer with him!
