That is a low blow, low-life comment... even for hockeybuzz. Come out of you ivory tower and walk with the rest of us fans for a while.
I am intrigued by Subban and see him as a good person with (as you said) a big personality and not a distraction as in the Sean Avery sense, more in the Dion Phaneuf way. He is also aging (maturing), came off a couple rough transitional years both personally and professionally and could be a good fit as a RHD. Bitetto earned a spot as a bottom pair/7th D in part due to his character and Subban shares some of those qualities. playful attitude, work ethic, pride. Lindsay would love skiing at Sunshine
Hischier is the bread/butter prize of that proposed deal. - 2.0
I’m not wrong.
I at no point said anyone here was racist, or trying to be. Hockey players with personality get shunned by the culture of the NHL. Look at Phil Kessel, or Alex Ovechkin pre-2018. Or Byfuglien. Or even a Josh Ho-Sang.
Subban got the “rep” he has because he’s loud, talkative, and likeable in a world of boring, nondescript hockey players. The reason that rep hasn’t faded like with most players is most likely because of the colour of his skin |

We would still retain the cap hit though for two years. Is that correct?
Not sure how the dressing room would play out if PK walked in to the room making $9 M- while the rest of the boys make considerably less? Maybe animosity?
Probably if we were to go out and play like an all-star, or close, it might be all right. But can that happen? - grahamzky
I’m not sure anyone in the locker room would care about cap hit. Subban won a Norris, and was a top 10 defenceman all through his prime.
If players are genuinely mad about a price tag not matching the performance anymore, Blake Wheeler would be gone already |

There is already plenty of animosity from players about salaries. His name is Mark Shiefele and he’s pissed about his contract and that multiple guys are making more than him. This is reality in every NHL locker room though and will never go away. It is what it is |

Blake Wheeler is the leader and captain of the Jets. He has spilled his blood and guts here since 2011. He has earned the big $$$ with the team.
Blake leas the kids by example as he epitimizes what it is to he a Winnipeg Jet with his effort. That alone makes him a valuable member of this team.
The same can not be said about PK. |

Yea, you're probably tight.
I just don't want to upset the room when it is not needed by bringing in what, IMO, is an over-paid player seemingly on the downside of his career. But like you say, probably lots of animosity goes on in this regard in every room in the NHL. |

Still not worth it, he's not the player he once was and even in his best years he was pretty overrated. - JetFuel
I am unsure if you remember the 2004-05 lockout. Prior to the lockout Teemu Selanne was essentially done. He had bad knees and he was bumped down to the the fourth line in Colorado.
The lockout year allowed Selanne to recover and he has stated that if it wer not for that year off, his career was over.
Subban will have had close to a year off, when/if the upcoming season begins. I have been watching his workout videos with the Rock. The man looks motivated and will be healed by the time the season eventually begins. I think he's worth taking a shot on, especially if a percentage of his contract is paid for the Devils. |

PK donated a big chunk of money to the Children's Hospital in Montreal. I don't know if your comment holds weight. I am not sure, but I thing a wing of the hospital is named after PK. He's a good person.
Don't understand this stuff about him being a distraction. |

Oh I have no problem with the person. Don't know him, seems like a nice guy when interviewed.
It's the $9 salary - would be highest paid Jet - that might be the distraction. Who knows, maybe not.
If acquired, would hope you're right about his attitude going forward, getting in shape for big year. Bit would we have $9 against the cap for two years?
I''m asking, not quite sure how this works.

If Chevy decides he wants the Jets to be a budget team, his cap hit would work wonders to hit the cap floor. I am unsure what True North is planning on doing during the pandemic.
Either way if we get Subban or not, we are going to have a $9 million player on the team. Laine will most likely make that money if he stays. If the Philly fan is correct that Laine can get us a haul. We should theoretically be asking for the following:
To NJ: Patrik Laine
To WPG: Nico Hischer, PK Subban (40% salary retained), #7 & #18 overall picks
That to me sounds like the most fair deal I can think of for both sides. We get a top 4 d-man, and quality top 2 Center, plus some lottery tickets, where Chevy does his best work. |

I love Laine, and I will be crushed if he goes, but that’s a strong trade |

Let’s not forget the latter half of 2018-19 (or even small stretches this year) where Wheeler simply did not move his feet. Both him and Scheifele were completely disengaged for a solid 3 straight months in that season. Just nothing.
And while we all love Wheeler, and we should, let’s not forget that he’s being paid for past performance. He was a 10 million dollar player in 2016. In 2020, he’s worth half that. So while you can argue he’s just getting the money he earned, which is true on the whole, he’s overpaid now because he was underpaid in the past. That’s bad for us.
Why can’t it be said about PK? He’s still beloved in Montreal, does a ton of charity work, lead Nashville to a Cup Final, and is now unfortunately on the decline of his career.
He’s done nothing to earn this “distraction” tag besides being delightful and being a star for his team(s) |

Take it for what it’s worth but the TSN insiders just said that Laine is absolutely being discussed and teams are calling. They said at this time Columbus seems most interested, Carolina called but it didn’t go far and they also added the Habs do not seem interested at this time. |

Looking over Columbus, I just don’t see a fit!! I see no way they move PLD, Jones or Werenski. So what kind of package does that leave????
Wenberg, Bjorkstrand, Foundy and a first? Doesn’t seem like enough?? But to be fair I have not seen a lot of Columbus and don’t know much about Foudy?
I don’t see any good young right shot D, but agin maybe I’m missing something.
I just don’t see a fit there. |

Bjorkstrand, Savard, and a 1st would be an insane overpayment that almost immediately fixes the entire team. Even if it is an RFA and an expiring contract
Oliver Bjorkstrand is a better player than Laine, Connor, and Wheeler, and possibly better than Ehlers. |

LOL... Haha, a 30something UFA dman, a 1st and a decent RW is an insane overpay for Laine??
Guess this lines up with Copp being a 2C, Subban is still good, Lowry is great and bringing back Bitetto isn't the worst idea.... 😂
Man this market sure undervalues Laine. |

Would not give a 7th round pick for a 50% retained Subban, his best years are behind him. |

A 29 year old* top 4 dman we would be extending, an arguably elite RW, and a 1st round pick for Laine. Yes.
But you not bothering to google how old Savard is, or even reading the entire second half of the comment you replied to, is pretty well in line with your lack of research into Copp’s performance. Or understanding that not being at his peak does not make Subban an objectively bad player. Or that Lowry is actually pretty great on defence, and last season was a weird off-year.
But go off, I guess. |

I think the Jets would ask for to start - L. Foudy and A,. Texier. Maybe they add in D. Savard (for 1 yr RD), B. Jenner and a 1st for Laine, Niku and our 2nd.
This still leaves CBS with cap issues as they have to re-sign PLD, Gavrikov and Josh Anderson. CBS would no doubt want to add in A. Wennberg. Josh Anderson would be a nice add for the Jets, if healthy.
So maybe Foudy (a must), Texier (up and coming), Savard, Wennberg and the 2020 1st - for Laine, Niku and our 2020 2nd? Adds or subtracts? |

I don’t think they’d be willing to throw that many pieces at it. Maybe I’m just limited in my imagination, but that feels more busy than is feasible |

That's what critics and especially Tony Granato said about Selanne as well in 2003-04. |

Don’t forget Rangers Eric Staal. Dallas Stars Michael Ryder.
Or, on a smaller scale, Derrick Brassard. |

I do not think that Laine is being undervalued. He's playing for a coach that clearly has no idea how to coach him. Let's face it, Maurice is going to be here forever. He must have naked pictures of Chipman or something.
Why go through the frustration of constantly criticizing Maurice? Trade Laine and get Maurice players that he can coach. That is the way I look at it! |

This is great news, I am hoping that a bidding war begins. Highest bidder gets Laine, and if we do not like the bids, we do not have to trade him! |

Savard would have to come with an extension.
Bjorkstrand and Ehlers played world juniors together are were dynamic!!!
I’d still ask for more!! Foudy at least, possibly even Anderson
