Just read on the athletic, Columbus considering to buyout Wennberg. He’d absolutely be a buy low reclamation project.

I remember defending that contract at the time, because it was about what he was worth in that season, and at his age he likely had higher gear yet to be seen.

This is a great suggestion.

What do you think about Turris as a reclamation project?

I thnik everyone thought he had a higher gear, us, scouts, etc.

Wonder if Torts helped, hindered or had no effect on Wennberg?

No Turris or Bobby Ryan reclamation projects for me. Let someone else worry about whether they can bounce back.

But that's just me!

Definitely would be worth taking a flyer on, sounds like a way better plan then trading Laine or Ehlers for a center.

With this logic, I guess it's best we stick to just signing the Letestu's, Bourque's and the Shore's.

Turris baffles me, at the NHL level he is worse than little but then you get him on an international team, like when he plays at the world championships and play him with other talented guys and he looks like shiefele. Do I think he is sheifele, absolutely not. But is he worth a 2 year contract under 3million, sure be worth a look depending on what else we do.

I think a line of Ryan-Turris-Wheeler could be pretty good!

Not sure how you came up with this logic just because I said "no" for me for Turris and Ryan.
Rather take a flyer on a player who "is" or might be" than a player that "was/or never was."
Many on here (not always in my case) clamour to "give the kids a chance" and this would certainly go against that grain.
Still, maybe you have a case, but I just don't think you'll see either one in a Jet uniform. At least I hope not.

This is a case where we will have to agree to disagree. Jets have a history of signing guys like Matt Hendricks, Mark Letestu, Alexei Ponikorovsky, Gabriel Bourque, Nick Shore and the like.

No. Too much money for too long at too old an age for too little on the ice

To be fair, Nick Shore is an NHL level player. Strong defensively, and decent for puck possession.
Pony used to be a player, but we signed the aged version.

He would be a UFA, that would get a contract similar to Shattenkirk. I think for 1.5 he would be great!
Bobby Ryan would get the same deal!

Oh I agree in that scenario re signings. Ryan or Turris would be better, couldn't be much worse. Guess I'm just hoping for something better.

Get the #2C first, and hopefully a couple of D, and then we can worry about the wingers.

They aren’t buying him out with 4 years left. They don’t have the cap space. They’d be better off taking an L trading him back to Ottawa with a 1st

According to the buyout calculator on CapFriendly it'll be 8 years of a $2M cap hit, idk if the Preds will buyout Turris but that's an awfully long time with that much dead cap space especially with the cap being flat for awhile.

There's worse buyouts but ya need every dollar of cap space if you want to contend it seems.

Oh, ok, sorry for previous post re Turris.

Thought you were talking about Bobby Ryan. The Turris one sounds to be a poor buyout contract, but you never know I guess

That's is not what is being reported. This morning on the illegal curve, they said he will be most likely bought out by Tuesday. Crazy thing is, his play improved after Laviolette was fired.

Also, he averaged .5ppg, essentially Bryan Little numbers! Would be great to have a guy like that on the third line.

On signing Bobby Ryan and/or Kyle Turris.

Worst Case Scenario: one or both end up being terrible and as a result the Jets place both or one on waivers and they end up clearing and then end playing for the Manitobe Moose.

Best Case Scenarion: one or both come in highly motivated to prove they got game. Both put up 40-50 points and become valuable contributors for this team, while insulating younger players. Both come in at cheap cap hits and at the end of next year, one or both sign another 1-2 year extensions.

Best case scenario: Turris can still be a top 6 forward. Decent stop gap. Bobby Ryan likely blocks a younger player, but holds his own on line 3. 1 year deals for both.

Worst case scenario: They both suck. They both block young players. They both continue to play regular minutes under Maurice in the exact same roles and situations they would in the best case scenario. This goes on for the entire season. 1 year deals for both.
