I'd rather not trade Pettersson but if he nets an above average 3C... we should still be fine on defense. Marino can elevate his partner.

Funny, because he hated Chris Tanev for not having a pulse offensively, and he has openly criticized Horn's contract due to age, deployment and durability, but here comes Matheson with some speed, offensive ability, but has a long contract and *some* of his stats aren't flattering

Oh yea, definitely ready to cherry pick all of Matheson's poor metrics and ignore the positive ones. Then will say Rutherford has no idea what to look for in defenseman...when Matheson is fast and can score goals.... after just female doging that we need to stay away from defensive defenseman

I would rather not trade him either, but logical next step would be to move him, well logical in Rutherford land.

He was on twitter ripping the trade, and in general he’s right. Hornqvist is a devaluing asset with a bad contract but the whole point of offloading Hornqvist is to recoup cap space. He’s still a pretty good hockey player for the time being. This trade probably worsens our on ice product and doesn’t bring back enough cap to justify it. Only like $400k in savings. Not even an AHL call up.

Found this tidbit on Twitter....they have different roles and different positions obviously but one was effecting the 5 on 5 on ice product much worse than the other last year...

When looking at potential landing spots for Pettersson, none of those teams have a 3C worthwhile.

I don't think it's possible to simply offload Horn for capspace without retaining like we did with Bjugstad, or taking back another contract. Not in a world with a flat cap and Horn coming off 2 declining seasons

That’s fair which is why I thought Hornqvist would stay. But if you’re gonna trade him, cap should be retained in a way that you still save a not insignificant cap Figure (we saved like $2.1 mil in the Bjugstad trade) or in a package for a similarly underwhelming player that could be more useful. I think Rutherford tried to go the second rout but whiffed on his target. I don’t think Matheson is more useful to this team than Hornqvist.

Pettersson 1 mil retained vs Mark Jankowski and Oliver Kylington?

Jankowski had a terrible year in 2020, but he's an excellent PKer and can score 15 goals in the right environment.
