Roger Mussa: Kovalchuk - F@&$% No! - Devils Advocate
Lets go Coleman!!! As a 25 year old, playing his first NHL season and compiling a whopping 2 points. I didn't think we would see him back the following season, but he clearly worked hard in the offseason and was a good 4th liner. Cut to this season, he landed us essentially 2 1st round selections and is in good shape to win the greatest trophy of all. |

Watching him struggle the past couple of seasons in the NHL is a reminder that he's washed up. I'm not sure what use he could be beyond powerplay time and why, if your NJ, torture yourselves? NJ is a young team that's getting good pieces to be a contender again. Don't waste a cent on him imo. |

Haha he was certainly one of my favorite players to watch. But he will be 29 when he is a UFA again, and if the price is right we can try and ink him again on a short term deal. Regardless, he sure popped off at the right time for our clubs as absolute sellers. And a great job selling assets at that! Can't wait for the Draft and free agency. |

Friedman on 31 Thoughts believes that if the Sens don't take Askarov at 5, the Devils will at 7. He says a lot of teams are wondering if New Jersey will take him there.

Pass. Maybe with our 12 overall, but no way we spend our top pick on Askarov. |

I think it would be a good move to offer a cheap one year deal to Bobby Ryan. Our RW is depleted, and worst case scenario he could be our 4RW. Now that he is off the sauce I wouldn't be surprised to see the kid rebound to some degree. Constant boozing had to take a serious toll on his performance during those years. No clue why Ott decided to move him out when they are nowhere near the floor, but I assume they will make some moves shortly to justify it. |

We dont pick 12th. 7th, 18th, and 20th but I could see us trading up to 11-15 though if someone we like starts to drop. Either way i dont think we are going to be making all 3 of our picks, either 18 and/or 20 is getting moved out to bring in young immediate help or we're trading them to move up |

NJ.com put up a decent article here with some thoughts from Fitz about the upcoming draft: https://www.nj.com/devils...rs-but-talking-trade.html
Some of the notes i thought were interesting:
-lots of calls for 18 & 20
-will only move for top 6 F/top 4 D to fit young core with at least few years of control
-“If that doesn’t come across my plate, we just make the picks.”
-their list isn’t complete, especially with hockey starting back up. Won’t be complete until draft day
-looking at “probably a dozen” prospects for their selections and aren’t done interviewing
-Sanderson is a 25 minute a night player
-Rossi is small but has a strong lower half
-Drysdale is undersized but a great puck mover and a RD at that
-“Look at what Raymond’s doing right now” (which is having a very good start to the season)
-Perfetti is probably the smartest player in the draft
-open to moving up, moving back, whatever with 18 & 20. Depends on the board
He doesn’t particularly say anything about Holtz which may or may not be concerning if you're someone that really wants him(like i do) |

Good info and thanks.
This is huge opportunity for Tom Fitzgerald's to put his stamp on the team and set the direction of the rebuild. Nothing against Ray Ray who I thought was a damn good horse trader but Fitzy did really well with Coleman and Vats. I'm curious to see what he does between the draft and free agency.
I'm fine with keeping all three picks. I don't want to spend the #7 on Askarov. |

My bad. Still not spending the 7th on a tendy. If he available at 18th (doubt he will be), scoop him up. If Askarov is gone, there are still options. Of the top 5 ranked goalies, only 3 are projected to go in the first two rounds. |

I can't believe I missed this game.. working 2 hours past my shift.. calling DCP&P on an inbred parent. What a waste. Good for Coleman, Cooper, and all them. Feel for Stamkos. You can tell he just really wanted to be on the ice with his team and is genuinely proud of and happy for them. |
