I want to say it was PensBlog or Pensburgh but I’m having trouble figuring out what terms to search haha

No problem if you can't, that's just always been my theory on why some wings succeed here better than others. If I guy had 50 points before he came but had 20 on the PP, it's hard to match those numbers when you only get maybe 30 second at the end.

That second year for Schultz was pretty much a career year. He didn't play like that the rest of his time here, but he was a legit #3 that ran the PP for one season. I won't say #1 because he didn't take the tough defensive matchups like Letang does.
- Tojo.

Yeah but Letang missed exactly the last half of that season and all the playoffs.

I just remember Schultz-Cole not being sheltered at all and used in all situations just as much or more than the other pairs after Letang went down. The next season after this career year he broke his ankle and required surgery in the first week of the season, missed 5 or 6 months and he's been garbage ever since that.

Just going to the Sheary example everyone uses. He had a 104 PDO which is insane and definitely not repeatable. So even when it looks like there was a Crosby bump there’s usually other factors that caused the results to jump.

The hockeywriters analysis on defenses from 31st to 1st:

17) Florida Panthers
Keith Yandle-Aaron Ekblad

Michael Matheson-Anton Stralman

Mark Pysyk-MacKenzie Weegar

Ian McCoshen-Joshua Brown

Tommy Cross-Ethan Prow

Riley Stillman-Brady Keeper

ANALYSIS: As projected by THW’s own Larry Fisher in the first edition of these rankings, the Panthers’ top-four were excellent in 2019-20. Yandle and Ekblad both eclipsed 40 points and Matheson and Stralman contributed some offence too with 20 and 19 points respectively. Even Pysyk and Weegar were dangerous offensively with nine and seven goals as well. Offence was definitely not a problem with this unit. It was in their own end where it got dicey, as they finished with the fifth-most goals against in the NHL. If they hope to make the playoffs next season, the defence needs to be better in their own end.

Detroit is listed @ 31st on D. Geez.

How come? I assume we are getting rid of Jacko so it makes sense. I don't wanna spend $5.3M on a 3rd line player and Matheson could be a $4.8M puck moving Top 4 defenseman. We all know other moves will come and Jacko's days are counted.

Dude, he's already in full "Give JJ a chance" mode and that lasted two years.

There's nothing wrong with the Pens taking on a dman who had promise and didn't pan out right, and could benefit from a different team/system. What is wrong is taking chance spending nearly $5M for six years. That's lunacy when you're a cap-strapped team like the Pens who have more pressing weaknesses to fill.

Matheson could possibly do well here. I think there are definitely more positives in his game than JJ, but some of the weaknesses are equally as bad. If he was half the price and we didn't have JJ? Sure, why not. The Pens already have a 24 year old top four dman locked up for five years at $4M. A player that is already proven. That player is Pettersson and he's going to get moved for an expensive gamble.

He’s also in the Give Matheson a chance train. I bet he wants to release a bunch of felons and give them a second chance too.

I meant Matheson when I said he was in give jj a chance mode. I'm just using JJ as an adjective as much as possible lol.

Putting a good dman next to a bad man I'm now officially calling "Getting JJ'd"

Honestly I like that he thought he needed to point out Detroit was ranked last. Like wow I had no idea.

It’s comical how often you poop on your own team but other posters find the need to poop on your team too like it’s some sort of insult and you don’t realize they’re in a rebuild? Hahaha

Nah. I just wanted to show you Matheson was a Top 4 D-man for Florida in 2019-20. The Detroit part was just a very small sentence so you could explain why they put them in last place. Found it weird having Hronek, Cholowski

Last place because they suck lol. Cholowski sucks. Hronek is good. Nemeth is solid. Dekeyser is meh. Seider is the future. The rest is essentially a steaming pile of poop.

And they are ranked dead last and MM aka JJ 2.0 would still be a 3rd pair guy in Detroit. Let that sink in.

At this point, do they even announce if the deal is officially dead or do we just assume it's dead?

My hope now is another GM offers something better for Horny... Even if only marginally haha.

I feel as though Horny has the intangibles some GMs tend to over rate... And he also still fills a role on a team/isnt useless.

We also don't know if other parts were involved, i.e. retention, prospects, picks...

After seeing that there's no way a GM offers something better. OTT is now thinking they have a way to move Zaitsev. CHI will call about Seabrook.

What ever happened with Joe Hicketts? Put up really good junior numbers. When he played at the WJC his last year, his coach played like 800 minutes a night, figured he'd be at least a 3rd pair guy. Or just had an idiot coach. That could be a reason why they failed to medal.
