My hope now is another GM offers something better for Horny... Even if only marginally haha.

I feel as though Horny has the intangibles some GMs tend to over rate... And he also still fills a role on a team/isnt useless.

Still gotta find a team Horny is willing to go to. FLA he would get the weather, tax benefits, and Stralman.

What ever happened with Joe Hicketts? Put up really good junior numbers. When he played at the WJC his last year, his coach played like 800 minutes a night, figured he'd be at least a 3rd pair guy. Or just had an idiot coach. That could be a reason why they failed to medal.

Doesn’t move well enough for his size for the NHL. Good AHL player. He’s actually my little cousins favorite player as he goes to GR games all the time.

Vegas would be a great fit if they had cap space.

Does Vegas have any overpaid trash they could send us?

(I'd take Fleury ONLY because it would troll the F out of Wilson)

The hockeywriters analysis on defenses from 31st to 1st:

17) Florida Panthers
Keith Yandle-Aaron Ekblad

Michael Matheson-Anton Stralman

Mark Pysyk-MacKenzie Weegar

Ian McCoshen-Joshua Brown

Tommy Cross-Ethan Prow

Riley Stillman-Brady Keeper

ANALYSIS: As projected by THW’s own Larry Fisher in the first edition of these rankings, the Panthers’ top-four were excellent in 2019-20. Yandle and Ekblad both eclipsed 40 points and Matheson and Stralman contributed some offence too with 20 and 19 points respectively. Even Pysyk and Weegar were dangerous offensively with nine and seven goals as well. Offence was definitely not a problem with this unit. It was in their own end where it got dicey, as they finished with the fifth-most goals against in the NHL. If they hope to make the playoffs next season, the defence needs to be better in their own end.

Detroit is listed @ 31st on D. Geez.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that they ranked them 17th, and then throw in at the end they gave up the 5th most goals and need to defend better after spending the whole article praising their offense. I know BOB struggled, but no way was that a middle if the pack defense.

Nate Schmidt isn't trash, but he's their bad overpaid contract and he's a Vegas fan favorite. I doubt they're looking to move him right now, but when they need to replace Statsny they may need to.

At this point, do they even announce if the deal is officially dead or do we just assume it's dead?

JR is now listening to offers from other teams for their trash contacts.

If I’m a GM and got news of JR dumping Hornqvist for a much longer/worse contract, I’m definitely calling and making an offer.

Unless they fancied McCann. Sending Horn and McCann for a Statsny package of some sort.

Schmidt's contract isn't bad. Theodore may have taken over as their #1 D but Schmidt is still getting the 2nd most ice-time on the back-end. He's still just 29 and his contract runs until he's 33. Plus, he's a horse that get's around the ice in a hurry and can break the puck out on his own. I don't see him getting dealt unless they're actually making a move for Pietro.

I like Schmidt, but he's overpaid by a good $1.5M IMO.

Idk. I think for the money you would want a little more offense. But his overall impacts and role he plays he’s easily worth 5.25-5.5m imo.

I think over $5M is too much, but again, I didn't really say it's a bad contract. I said it's THEIR bad contract with overpayment or at least I tried to imply that. It's far from an albatross, but for Vegas even $1M of space is valuable.

Their bad contracts in no particular order for me are: stone, pacioretty, stastny, martinez, and MAF.

I'll take Stones bad contract all day every day. He is a top player in the league, big cap hit but he brings big value.

9.5m is too much for someone that’s never hit 70 points

I thought his price tag was lower than lower than that hahah holy moly, like 7.5 I was thinking this whole time....even still, the guy is a stud defensively too. So for the points below 70 he's also helping to prevent a lot of goals against. 9.5 is high AF though.

Great player for sure but 9.5m is too much. 8m makes more sense imo because of his two way play.
