Halifax Mooseheads announce 2020 #NHLDraft prospect D Justin Barron is out indefinitely following a medical procedure. A further timeline will be given after follow-up examination. Missed several months last season with a blood clot. Not clear if the procedure was related to it. - Theo Fox
I just asked Wiz about him falling to us in the 2nd round a blog or 2 ago. Theo, if Barron is available with our 2nd round pick, do you think we should take him? |

Question, was beating Edmonton worth it? I wanted them to get experience, but I don’t think winning the play in round was worth going from picking 9th or 10th to 17th. Losing a five game series with a couple of overtime games would have been okay by me. - Angotti
Two extra weeks - 9 extra games - of Blackhawk hockey - yes, it was worth it.
I don’t think anyone knows when we’ll see them skating again. |

This will be argued forever. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. No matter who the 9th or 17th picks end up being there is no telling what Chicago would have done because the picks may have fallen differently had several teams not been in the "playoffs." |

If we draft Holloway then I say all things considered, everything is ok. A lot of good beating Edmonton for a few reasons. Those readons probably outweigh the fact that we could have drafted someone better than whatever we get at #17.
If the draft goes similar to Wiz projection, we should get one of his top rated 17 skaters. Although Holloway is whom we do want and need, the player we take is ok as long as Bowman does not move back in the draft.
After slot #17 it is not the same tier level ceiling available. There are some players certain bloggers like but they each have drawbacks or a gamble attached to their report card. Just to get an extra pick by moving back is not really a good idea. If we happened to draft someone in round two and this prospect turns out pretty good, then Bowman moving his picks around could be ok.
But really what we need is the high end tier one player which is found through the 17th selection. That is what we should not surrender. You can hope to find gold or even a useful player as a steal in round two. Think Saad and DeBrincat. But you don't know for sure how any bonus pick from an extra pick or moving up in round two, is going to work out.
Anyway the good part about beating Edm is that 1) it showed us just where we are at..
We need our young players to step up. Dach is progressing; Boqvist not really. Boqvist needs strength and honestly until he gets more strength he should be playing in Rockford.
We saw that we need players who have good size and barrel up and down the wing. We really should try to find a way to keep Saad.
We saw that our defense is slow and not mobile enough or tough enough. We hope as prospects get their NHL look that they will stick and develop into solid NHL dmen.......unfortunately our two best presently, Keith and Murphy, need to stay to help our defensemen kids development
Prospects will move.in on the blueline. But when for each
We also saw that DeBrincat and Kubalik could be scorers but we need to surround them with gritty tough forwards. DeBrincat might/guess probably gets back to form. A decision on long term ability to afford Saad, DeBrinvat and Kubalik might turn out whereas Saad is dealt this coming off season if you choose to believe rumors.
The last reason 3) we did well by beating Edm is that Colliton has established himself as a capable coach.
Now it is up to Bowman to give him the type of players needed. Whether Holloway is our man or not. Whether you do not actually sign on as a Colliton being a good coach. Because he is if nothing else......he is not a bad coach.
He adapted well in coaching when he had to. There is no devisiveness among players and coach relationship despite his system of defensive coverage not working out. It has been too easy for some to criticize Colliton. And even with the best personnel his system is not one I am too fond. We really should recognize that doing a rebuild on the fly yes, Colliton has been ok as coach.
Apparently Bowman & Rocky concur. Colliton will be re-evaluated after each season, too, so that if he is found lacking perhaps he would not later on be retained.

Yes, if Barron is still around at 46th, I would definitely consider him. He likely goes late 1st or early 2nd but his health issue could see him drop.
At the 46th spot, two defenders to consider are Tyler Kleven and Daemon Hunt.
Kleven plays a physical game as a prototypical stay-at-home defenseman. Simple and quick with getting the puck out of the zone. Not going to wheel and deal but who cares if he locks it down defensively.
Hunt is a smart all-around defender who will play the body but not as punishing as Kleven, Braden Schneider, or Kaiden Guhle. Skating is average yet makes up for it with solid positioning.
However, I could see Bowman being enamored with small puck movers in Topi Niemela and Emil Andrae. Skilled but not really what the team needs.
D-men to avoid (defense needs a lot of work): Jeremie Poirier, Lukas Cormier, Shakir Mukhamadullin. |

Friedman on 31 Thoughts says he has heard #CBJ wants to make some news, rattle the cage a bit. They're looking to add a scorer. They want to do something big.
Would you trade DeBrincat to the Jackets? If so, what would you want in return?
Trade them DeBrincat and Strome for Dubois and run like mad before the ink dries. That would rattle the cage. |

Florida - I can't stand Miami
Toronto - I like the city, but everything hockey-related is overblown
Seattle - In my opinion the most overrated US city.
Carolina - Out of sheer spite because I miss the Whalers
Minnesota - No matter what they change they are always a crap show
Ottawa - They have no interest in icing a competitive team.
Buffalo - See MN
San Jose - ... I had a bad experience...
NY Rangers - No comment
Detroit - Because Detroit Sucks! - Chunk
Not a hockey city but I'd give that award to San Francisco. Seattle's kind of a smaller version of it, but I'd take it over San Fran any day.
As far as the list I'd probably go Winnipeg, Buffalo, Ottawa, Columbus and AZ

Saad and Delia for CBJ's 2020 1st and Korpisalo and a conditional 2021 1st if the Jackets extend Saad to a new contract. Let Crawford walk.
Edit - maybe the Hawks retain 2M on Saad's salary. |

Any interest in Tamba Bay's Alex Killorn? Read where he may become one of their cap casualties in order for them to sign Cirelli and Sergachev. He has 3 years left at 4.5M. Maybe Saad's replacement at LW if he is moved? |

I don’t disagree, but I’ve just heard equal negative to positive reviews of SF from friends who live(d) there. Hence, the “overrated”. |

ikeane, how are you now?
I will say this about that...(that sounded like a Boston accent and JFK for a second...)
Arizona found their were more than one interested teams in Darcy Kuemper so it has been reported they raised the return from a mid-first draft pick to a player and a draft pick.
I am going to try and link both rumors (Saad to Devils) and wonder around "Would the Devils surrender one of slot #18 or #20 for Saad, so the 'hawks cover part of the Arizona asking price. IF Arizona really attempts to launch hammer or OE-L (because the defensive end was their biggest issue) that maybe makes room for Maatta as a place holder...
I just think before the hawks trade out of slot #17, they either
a) feel the prospects they REALLY liked are gone (including a value drop by goalie Askarov)
b) Kuemper has long term value as a placeholder starter as the watch fro improvement in the farm goalies.
c) The Corey Crawford era has silent ended.
d) The big league roster by subtracting Saad allows for yet another youth or euro as they attempt to hold steady to their plan to "one more run."
e) feel that there is going to be high activity in the other Gas, something I think is not the case, but what do we know, eh? |

Yep 31, 4 years older than Saad. Just spitballing. If Saad is moved for a decent return, Killorn checks some boxes --Left wing, comparable stats the last few years, 1.5M cheaper and cost controlled for 2 years longer than Saad. He's having a decent playoff so I guess Killorn also checks the "type of player you want for the playoffs" box. But on the flip side, at 31 he may fall off the cliff in another year or so and the Hawks are stuck with him. Maybe he can be a TDL candidate to a team in contention down the road.
TB needs to shed some salary so maybe we can send Koekkoek back to them. They have 3 UFA defenseman they probably can't afford to sign and 4K will provide them with some depth. |

Of course, but 4.45 million cap hit makes him a logical and attractive trade asset.
Again he is gonna cost you because teams are gonna want him.
I just don't think there is going to be sweeping movement in the team close to the top of the Cap.

They are NEVER trading Dubois, period, itv this time. He is the closest thing they have to a power scorer, distributer.
I am all for trading anybody including the 'cat, but agin you are not getting one of the Kopisalo or Elvis, and all the vets are high Capped, and their big trade chip Anderson may still be dinged...and wants to be paid too.
Liam Foudy, Alexandre Texier, Emil Bemstrom are probably not going to be counted upon to be first line replacements.
And the rest of their forwards are long in the tooth save for Josh Anderson, and th4e disappoint in Wenneberg who they are currently paying almost 5 mil unltil the end of 2023.
They do have another goalie prospect in Daniil Tarasov but do we need a 21 year old Russian playing goal in Russian to wait for?
I don't they are interested din trading Alexandre teller, who is playing /loaned in Europe, getting ready for the the late NHL 2020-21. He has some chops, but nothing that guarantees your are getting replacement for ANY hawk forward you launch... |
