Not a hockey city but I'd give that award to San Francisco. Seattle's kind of a smaller version of it, but I'd take it over San Fran any day.

As far as the list I'd probably go Winnipeg, Buffalo, Ottawa, Columbus and AZ

I was there twice before the earthquake and it was a lot of fun. But I went the year after the quake and it was completely different. More like a hell hole. I wouldn't walk with my family from downtown to the wharf area anymore so we took a bus. Some goof had robbed a laundromat and was running down the street being chased by the owner. He jumped on the bus, reached into one of the bags, and threw a handful of quarters at the driver and yelled "get this (frank)in bus rolling". It wasn't funny until that guy got off the bus 4 blocks up the hill later. I'll never go back there, just straight to the Monterey Peninsula for the whole time.

I don’t disagree, but I’ve just heard equal negative to positive reviews of SF from friends who live(d) there. Hence, the “overrated”.

San Francisco ans East Bay are great - if you have lots of money and don’t mind breathing in wild fire smoke much of the year.

Excellent restaurants, central CA outdoor activities, day trip to Big Sur, good weather (unless you standing on the mound at Candlestick Park)....

The Red Wings have re-signed Gagner to a 1 year deal for $850,000. So much for re-uniting Kane and Gagner. #bowmanfail

Can't imagine Big Sur is worth the trip now. But if wild fires end and air improves, this is good exercise. Just crossing the water to hike or jog up to the peaks is a challenge.

I just asked Wiz about him falling to us in the 2nd round a blog or 2 ago. Theo, if Barron is available with our 2nd round pick, do you think we should take him?
- tvetter

What I want to know is this new blood clot story NEW?

Because he is still in my first round, and TSN has Calgary fans selecting him for them with their pick...and that would tell me that TSN does not see him as lead ballooning.

The Final Countdown by Europe an '80's song comes to mind as The Entry Draft countdown is just over a week away. Within the next week Tampa probably becomes the Cup champion and buyouts perhaps a few hockey transactions.

How quick will Bowman be to get in on the action? I truly believe that he wants to get younger, promote kids so I expect dumping some veterans and is at least some attempt to get more grit and boards players.

But I just wonder if Bowman is concerned about his prize talented Boqvist. Concussions, getting stronger..Teamattes need to deliver as many tough check as they receive less the sooner Boqvist becomes chopped liver. A team needs boards players throughout line up, and cannot go light on top lines....if you want to advance in playoffs. That said, does Bowman draft a skill dman in round one. I think not as he has a few in the stable nipping for NHL. The player Bowman selects at #17 is quite interesting. I have reservation Holloway is still on the board. What prospect might slip down to #17 and do we want this player?

Who remembers this:

@NHLhistorygirl

On this date in 1999, #Caps GM George McPhee punched #Blackhawks head coach Lorne Molleken outside the dressing room, earning a month's suspension and a $20,000 fine.

- Theo Fox

LOl i do. i was a big Lorne Molleken fan. last year he was coaching a game i was reffing and i tripped at centre ice. He called me over to discuss a call and asked how i enjoyed the slide.

ikeane, how are you now?

I will say this about that...(that sounded like a Boston accent and JFK for a second...)

Arizona found their were more than one interested teams in Darcy Kuemper so it has been reported they raised the return from a mid-first draft pick to a player and a draft pick.
I am going to try and link both rumors (Saad to Devils) and wonder around "Would the Devils surrender one of slot #18 or #20 for Saad, so the 'hawks cover part of the Arizona asking price. IF Arizona really attempts to launch hammer or OE-L (because the defensive end was their biggest issue) that maybe makes room for Maatta as a place holder...

I just think before the hawks trade out of slot #17, they either
a) feel the prospects they REALLY liked are gone (including a value drop by goalie Askarov)
b) Kuemper has long term value as a placeholder starter as the watch fro improvement in the farm goalies.
c) The Corey Crawford era has silent ended.
d) The big league roster by subtracting Saad allows for yet another youth or euro as they attempt to hold steady to their plan to "one more run."
e) feel that there is going to be high activity in the other Gas, something I think is not the case, but what do we know, eh?

- wiz1901

I am well, how are you Wiz?

I am interested to see what the off-season holds. A decent sized turnover to address holes and get cap space, a "we made the playoffs and like our team", or a couple of minor tweaks.

Cautiously excited to see how Stan gets out of some if this cap mess. Really hoping for no Sharp for Garbutt and Daley style trades

It all depends on how gm's and his scouts view certain player and how he fits with the team imo.

I’m on board with acquiring Kuemper.
- DarthKane

Guy has never been the #1 once in his career. The only time he has played more than 30-ish games is a couple of seasons ago when Raanta was hurt.

Recency bias at play here. I mean..maybe he is a late bloomer but 4.5M is a lot of cap space for a hope it works out guy, imo.

@NHL_Watcher

Friedman on 31 Thoughts says he has heard #CBJ wants to make some news, rattle the cage a bit. They're looking to add a scorer. They want to do something big.

Would you trade DeBrincat to the Jackets? If so, what would you want in return?

Trade them DeBrincat and Strome for Dubois and run like mad before the ink dries. That would rattle the cage.

- Theo Fox

No. Then the Hawks would be looking for a scorer

What are giving up to get kuemper? Arz wants a1st or young assets from what i read in various reports.
- Scott1977

The Hawks are not a team in a place to trade young assets or draft pick if it were up to me.

The fact it isn't up to me is a drastic oversight if you ask me.

Again agree hawks are on transition phase of their rebuild/retool and need as many young assets and draft picks and possibly giving them away for a hope and prayer goaltender. Like see what subban can be with regular playing time. Maybe nothing but maybe catch lightning in bottle.

Plus, I think Crow will be back. Talks are probably still ongoing because we haven't seen anything that Crow is going to test FA which what usually gets put out there is the avenue is closed.

Just for comparison: Saad also got a $6x6M. I think Mantha is worth it as a physical power forward capable of 30 goals and 50+ points. Just hitting his prime, too.

@PuckReportNHL

Update on Anthony Mantha: Should get done around draft time. Looks like it’ll be in the 6x$6M range - Red Wings sticking to $5.5M-$6M, Mantha camp pushing for $6.5M. Term was agreed as 6 years. #LGRW

I respect your opinions. Would you consider Saad snd Murphy "young" assets? If not what would you like to see in return for trade for them in separate deals? Based on your previous posts, a couple of high picks and decent prospects? Any names in particular?
