This is not the case. He produces plenty at EV strength
18th among centers in 5 on 5 goals from 17/18-19/20
34th among centers in primary assists
27th among centers in overall points
He’s incredibly productive offensively, everywhere - sbroads24
Sure, and for a majority of that time frame he also played with a player who may have been considered a top 5 winger in the entire NHL in Johnny Gaudreau.
At the end of the day I do give credit for Monahan finding the soft spots and ultimately finishing on his opportunities but once teams shut down Gaudreau, the offence more or less dried up.
So let’s say you swap out Gaudreau for Reinhart. What is the impact on his offensive output and does he all of a sudden become a better defensive player ?
Maybe he figures it out defensively but I’m not betting the 8th OA pick + to figure that out. |

You are sort of doing the exact same thing you did with Skinner and his contract, now with Monahan and the 8th overall pick. You're exaggerating points about Monahan because of your lack of desire to trade 8th.
I don't think it's great value. I do think it's possible we lose that trade. It's also very possible we dradft a defensemen or land another Mitelstadt/Nylander.
Do you know what trade we will 1000% lose? The Jack Eichel one, after he demands a trade when we again, don't get him enough help. Monahan wouldv'e been it.
3 year stable of Eichel/Monahan/Cozens would be excellent
Now it's, let's hope the 36 year old has enough left and if not all our hopes are on Cozens |

Why don't we wait and see who is still on the board at 8, and then we make a decision, depending on how the draft falls it could get interesting the offers we might get for that pick. |

A) there is no guarantee that even a Eichel/Monahan 1-2 combo closes the gap. Then when Eichel leaves we even more franked. Also who is the 3C ? I wouldn’t assume Cozens.
B) It’s completely possible age catches up To Staal however I wouldn’t assume it. Pavelski looks great for Dallas right now.
C) Adams still has moves to make here and I’m intrigued by how he can maximize the value of our assets. Mojo for Staal was great asset management. |

It is absolutely, 100% guaranteed, that Sean Monahan is a capable 2C who can produce offense behind Eichel, and get some favorable match ups
There is no such guarantee Cozens is ready for that, or that a 36 yo will hold up another year
They need to have no questions going into this season in a few areas.
We need no doubt that we ave another center that can produce
We need no doubt that Dahlin will given the reigns to the ship as a #1 overall D man (that means moving 55)
We need no doubt that we have 2 goalies that can actually play and one isn't completely unplayable at times.
When ANY of these doubts are eliminated, I will start to be optimistic |

We had Eichel and ROR and finished dead last. That actually happened.
Why ? Because of lack of depth and crappy goaltending.
So your solution is to go full GMTM and overpay for a center that will most likely face other teams best lines as why the frank wouldn’t other teams attack a line that is incredibly suspect defensively.
Adams has the assets to bring in two more top 9 Forwards that fit this team and with the supply of goaltenders on the market it will be nearly impossible to not address that as there is not nearly as much demand with teams filling those roles internally.
I’m interested to see how Adams goes about it. |

I feel like people are severely understating Lundell with how good he already is and how good he will be. - kingcong39
I think if you look at the last few Stanley Cup Champs - including this one, GMs are seeing that a strong defense still gets you past the first round.
Contrary to a lot of the offensive philosophies that have been coming out from new/young management groups is the fact that offense will get you regular season wins, but it will not result in playoff success.
Lundell is a Bergeron/Couturier/Staal hybrid and probably like Mikko Koivu can be pushed into a #1 C role later on in his career. He is NHL ready now though. |

Okay when was the last time the Sabres hit on a first round pick? Eichel and dahlin don’t count.
You can’t say Cozens because we don’t know yet.
So I’ll be waiting for this answer |

"...With his relatively strong frame, Lundell excels down low in the cycle, always making intelligent plays to maintain possession for his team. The positional awareness and poise that he possesses are exceedingly rare to see from such a young player, which is why he is considered to be a relatively “safe” pick — a near guarantee to develop into at least a second-line centre in the NHL."

I honestly think we’ll get this from Cozens. If it comes down to Rossi and Lundell, you take Rossi and don’t look back. He can be taught the defensive side of the game, but we can’t teach the skill he’s got with the puck |

How to you arrive here after what I’ve said? I. Don’t. *want* to trade 8th overall. I will however, if that’s the only way to get a bonafide center/winger who will give us another element to the offense.
They need to not lose Jack Eichel. Period.
Drafting Anton Lundell doesn’t do that this year and probably next |
