Difference will be, if Eichel ever does demand a trade, the Sabres will be dealing from a position of weakness. |

When teams trade the top player in a deal they most often lose the deal.
Who was the last franchise player/center that was dealt in his early prime? Hall is not on Eichel's level or a center. - GilPerreault11
Nordiques/Avs won a Cup because they traded Lindros. That's about the only time trading a franchise player has worked. The Oilers won another Cup, but that was just momentum, and they had another franchise player. |

They might as well fold if they trade him. Who the (frank) is going to buy a season ticket if there's no Jack? They were already hurting for renewals pre-Covid. |

I would legitimately just switch to rooting for whatever team he goes to. Idc if it’s Boston.
If they (frank) up having Jack freaking Eichel I’m not giving this franchise any of my money or attention. |

Maybe not, it took Seguin a while to produce and Hamilton has bounced around. Here is a detailed article on the trade of 22 year old Kessel. The Sabres better get more than two firsts and hope they pan out if they trade Jack.
Revisiting the original Phil Kessel trade, where nobody is a winner today
In September of 2009 the Boston Bruins traded Phil Kessel to the Toronto Maple Leafs for three draft picks, two of which were later used on Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton. None of those players remain with those teams today.

They had the #1 pick in 89 (Sundin), 90 (Owen Nolan), and 91 (Lindros). They were all traded before the Nords/Avs franchise won a cup. |

I agree,
That's why it might be a good time (obviously there is never a great time) to trade eichel.
If, they have no home games / fans to worry about.
I would be extremely disappointed as a season ticket holder if they traded him. Jack's the show. Chasing 50 goals/100 points would be entertaining.
If they rebuild (again) they are gonna get crushed, but maybe have a year more for dahlin to become "the man" |

Steve Dangle takes a look back at the 1992 Eric Lindros Trade and how the trade tree evolved to include 6 members of the Hockey Hall of Fame and directly resulted in the Colorado Avalanche winning two Stanley Cups. After a week-long arbitration process, the result was the biggest trade in NHL history, which saw Lindros' rights awarded to the Flyers in exchange for six players (Steve Duchesne, Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci and Chris Simon), two draft picks and $15 million.

He’s going public with a trade demand if we aren’t good by mid season.
Buckle up, because Risto will be the #1D, Hutton/Ullmark will be the goalies, and our best defensive forwards are going bye bye.
Who else is still in the league that Adams was teammates with? It’s Justin Williams time - sbroads24

I don’t disagree.
Any team that trades the best player will ultimately be in tough.
All I’m saying is that #1C’s don’t come available too often and we may not get market value for him but it’s not like we won’t get some good pieces back.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t get to that point.
Let’s move Montour/Risto +++ and sign the right free agents and make the playoffs next year so we can keep Captain Jack |

I'm right there with you.
They want one of the top 5 centers in the game, they're going to pay. Because the damage that might be done with regards to this fanbase might, MIGHT be something that takes years to recover from.
But a return like that could also set this franchise up for years to come, too. But many fans wouldn't initially see that. |
