Holy (frank) bud change your tampon. Way too sensitive on a beautiful Sunday morning. Perry used to be a great player and he scored some key goals the last 2 games. Relax. Nobody thinks Simon is actually good. Useful but not good. - Feds91Stammer

Hahahah I'm good man. Super relaxed and chill. It's 22C degrees (72F) here today and sunny. Playing hockey soon. All is well. Hard to gauge attitude and demeanour through words/texts hahah |

You tend to notice players who are on the ice for a lot of goals. |

I don’t see the issue with Sceviour. He’s basically what our 4th line was last year. Mostly D-zone starts, pk, constantly facing top lines with other 4th line team mates. I think of anything he should take tanev’s spot, the shut down line will hum right along and tanev can move up and maybe be the workhorse for one of the other lines point producers. - 10inchTerror
Largely that people wanted more offensive forwards since we already have really good defensive forwards for the bottom 6. Sceviour makes sense as say a temporary ZAR replacement, though he doesn't have good possession numbers so I wonder just how good he could be.
I'm personally not keen to move Tanev off that line so finding his potential replacement doesn't do much for me. |

I think tanev would be a great puck retriever for either Sid and guentz or geno and rust, depending on what wing he prefers or is available. His speed and tenacity should draw attention from the other two. Much more than sheary or Simon. Don’t stack the top 6. Put zuck or kap or both on the 3rd line with McCann. There’s another Potential scoring line. |

I don't even think the Pens should do that. Staal is warm garbage too but with a 5.7 mill cap hit. Then you have his even higher priced garbage with still a log jam at LD all while losing an asset in the 2nd round pick. |

Offers more than sheary or Simon did. I thought kassian was a joke on the top line too but he performs to his roll. Not that kassian and tanev are comparable but would have a similar task |

Pens can't do much of anything else regardless right now, so I think taking on that contract for a year to be rid of JJ works out well. Pens can at the very least bury him until the deadline then flip him for crumbs.

Yeah I guess that's one way of looking at it, but if the Pens really have one or two years of window left which I'm not totally sold on, then you have someone who might be marginally better than JJ but would have to probably move out salary to fit him.
They won't bury him in minors. God forbid they buy someone out or bury in the minors, right? Two completely legit ways of doing business in NHL under the CBA... But nope... We don't do buyouts or bury vets in minors. Maddening. |

Very maddening. I think at this point JJ won't get moved and will just sit in the press box until they figure out what to do.

Funny thing is, he has 11 goals and 25 points in a 3rd/4th line role in 68 games
So, That's about 14/30 over 80 games
We loved Kunitz, and aside from a couple of outlier years, he was a 22-25 goal /50 point guy playing with Sid/Malkin in their primes
Someone has to hit, skate, and dig the puck out of the corners. Tanev doesn't quite have Kunitz's hands, but he does all the rest. It's definitely worth a try. He has more to give than 4th line duty |

You have a set top 6. The goal should be finding a better winger so zucker can move to the 3rd line |

You really think Tanev produces more with an extra 1-2 mins 5v5 ice time per game? |

It’s not ideal I get that. I wouldn’t peg tanev as a 1st or 2nd liner but with the team we have what else are you going to do. Have a good top 6 and 2 shutdown lines?
Sully seems to like pairs. Give McCann kap and plug in some grinders in the other spots and let them work their asses off for Sid/guentz, g/rust, and McCann/kap. Zuck will fit in wherever, then tanev and laff. Not ideal but that’s the team we got. |

Playing with Sid and Guentzel with offensive zone starts vs Blueger and ZAR with defensive zone assignments, and throw in some PP time?
Yes, I think we'd see at least 5 more goals and 10-15 more assists

Yes, the 2 shutdown lines don't work and we can't put all our eggs in SC1 and SC2. They just get targeted by the other 2 teams shutdown lines and then it becomes make or break with our PP
Guentzel Sid Tanev
Zucker Geno Rust
?? McCann Kapanen
or have a bonafide "Scoring line"
Guentzel Geno Rust
Zucker Sid Tanev
?? McCann Kapanen
In the second option, I'd play Sid against the other teams "Top" line, Geno against their 3rd/4th line and Match McCann against the other teams 2nd/3rd line |

The only argument I'll throw at the Tanev in the top six argument is Dupuis. I wouldn't expect Tanev to produce much more than he is now, but I think he COULD free up space for Sid or Geno.
If Tanev were to play in the top six I'd rather put him with Geno. I think Tanev-Geno-Rust would be a very tenacious line.

I like that second setup a lot. Having a bonafide scoring line is a good idea especially with slightly more favourable usage. Sids line and the blueger line should be able to hold their own against opposing top 2 lines, with Sid producing still. That’s why I personally don’t mind the Sceviour addition. That was his role in Florida and he can do it here.
With McCann and kap’s speed and 2 way play maybe that will help an internal option like Poulin succeed and play to his strengths while the others cover any liabilities he might bring. |
