Actually I was wrong, since 2010/11 the Lightning have been to five Eastern Conference finals including two Stanley Cup finals.

So in ten years they’ve been extremely competitive due to the drafting and developing. Mini is right in that you won’t see many kids from the last four years contributing because they’re still developing or they can’t crack a talent laden lineup from previous years drafting.

They said on the tv the other night, nine of their twelve forwards were either drafted by them or signed as young free agents (Johnson & Gourde). They also turned Drouin into Sergachev.

What amazes me is their ability to be prolific traders and maintain 7 or more picks per draft. In the last 10 seasons they had only 3 seasons of less then 7 picks. And only twice did they not have a 1st round pick. Yet their player acquisition has been phenomenal.

I’ll tell you who’s lucky... their fans.

They have assembled quite the team for sure. Getting good and lucky in the later rounds of the draft and missing on first round picks doesn't make them good it makes them lucky.

Trading away players before other teams know they suck isn't developing.

Making trades is something that Tampa Bay does well. No luck involved there.

You’re completely dismissing the players from 2011 forward they drafted and developed who are now the reason they’re on of the best teams in the league and leading them in the playoffs.

Secondly, still your date of 2014 they’ve been trying to win a cup, thus they’ve traded the kids they drafted late in the first to try and add that piece that puts you over the top and they’ve also traded two of those picks.

That doesn’t take away from the best on their team we’re all drafted and developed by them. Hedman, Point, Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Killorn, Palat, Cirelli etc are all leading them in playoff scoring and drafted by them.

All good.
I did a double take too when I saw the announcement.

If anything, it makes the sweetener dumping of LE or Sutter or whomever seem more expensive.

Not in the least actually.

I did happen to read that Cam Robinson has thought since the NHL draft that Hoglander has a higher offensive ceiling than Podkolzin though.

That made me shake my head back and forth as much as you talking about how great Tampa is at drafting. With a slight raised eyebrow of how can someone even possibly come to that conclusion.

Podkolzin will be a tweener, Leo Karmorov the second

I don’t, but I give credit for a job well done when I see it. Just like I say that guys an idiot when I see it. At the end of the day I want Benning to be better at his job. His decisions are the only ones that matter.

They actually haven’t, that’s said, you should (frank)in well improve when you finish 3-2-5-5-7 last or whatever it was. Hard not to.

I don't think you know the difference between lucky and good. I gave you some percentages to show you the difference.

You keep putting in a few names that were late 2nd and 3rd's and 7th round pick that have a less than 10% chance of playing in the NHL is as more skill than luck.

Maybe you’re dismissing great scouting and drafting as luck? It can’t all be luck when you’re continually doing it?

Should be noted that the Red Wings only have to worry about 3.2 million, with 1 million already paid in signing bonus.

Cost a second round pick to buy 3.2 of cap space

Ottawa is a unique situation and Buffalo has something like ten or twelve less wins than the Canucks over the past three seasons combined.
