I was hoping and still hoping for Erik Gustafsson as a short term cheap UFA signing. I don't have a problem with the Staal trade but it's another guy that isn't a great puck mover or offensive producer (why i want Gustafsson). As it stand Wings only have Hronek for offense and maybe Seider but it might take some time before he produces enough offense.
I would like to see something like this:
Dekeyser - Hronek
Gustafsson - Seider
Staal - Nemeth
Biega or Bowey as the 7th (kind of hoping they let Bowey walk tbh)
You could also swap Gustafsson with Nemeth and have Gus playing the right side on the 3rd pair and 2nd PP unit as Gus can play right or left side. |

I can't believe anyone is happy with this for Detroit, the Rangers pawned off their almost
$6 million cap dump and it only cost them a measly 2nd round pick that's not even in this upcoming draft and that's considered to be 'Yzerman weaving his magic?! Yikes!!
The Rangers are in a real cap crunch with RFA'S needing substantial raises and Stevie Y bailed them out, there's very few teams with cap space and the cap is flat, with the Wings being one of the few teams with a lot of cap space Yzerman should of been able to get something better then a crappy 2nd round pick in 2021 that's very likely going to be somewhere in the 45-60 overall range, big deal!
And this idea that Detroit needed a dman or veteran presence is hardly anything to celebrate considering how many free agent dmen there are that are going to be looking for a job and will likely be looking at having to take a paycut if they want a job, could of easily signed another Nemeth type dman for less or someone that could be sold off at the TDL for a pick just the same, hopefully Staal can be sold off at the trade deadline for something which might make this look a little better.
Sorry but for taking $5.7 million the Wings should've gotten more then a 2021 2nd,
Yzerman got played in this deal. |

Obviously nobody is offering a 1st round pick to dump one year of a player right now...pretty sure if someone was Yzerman would take it. Those that might give a 1st are likely horrible long term contracts which i hope Yzerman stays away from. Yzerman just said that he could possibly make another move like this if it comes up.
Yzerman got a 2nd round pick for one year of a player who if he has a decent season might get more assets at the deadline. Getting played is giving up a 1st round pick to get a player you previously waived and that pick turned into a #1 goalie that could end up winning the cup tonight. |

There might be more to this to come. Yes, it seems to not be worth "only" a late 2nd rounder. I would think a 2nd and a 3rd would have been more worth it. But like I said there might be more to this deal to be exposed later. Perhaps we will see at the draft.

If they are able to have fans at LCA, MAF would bring them in! This is about the business of making money, sooner not later. MAF would get more viewers to the TV set also! - HenryHockey
He’d also have to waive to come to Detroit. He’s an awesome dude for sure but I’m not spending any significant assets for him. |

Yes I think the price to take salary has gone down. It will only become more when a team that is over the cap has a very short time to dump it. Besides the Wings can use the player for the 1 year they will have him.

Gustafson sucks. Dude is a winger moonlighting as a defenseman. |

Yeah everyone tries to use the Marleau deal as reference but that required Carolina to buy him out. If Detroit had to buyout Staal they would have required 22OA from the rangers. |

And if Yzerman tells them he's not interested the Wings don't have a declining dman eating up what should be valuable cap space and a mid to late 2nd round pick in 2021, big deal, sorry this deal is a massive win for the Rangers, can't believe it only cost them a 2nd to get rid of Staal.
Yzerman should be holding teams over a barrel if they want to dump their junk on the Wings. |

so go to the extreme and if they say no, just walk away. please tell me what team you are GM for? massive win for the rangers, lol. yes, we know 2nd round picks arent valuable at all. you should watch tampa play more.
also, the jets are MASSIVELY overpaying Blake Wheeler to be a top line player in his declining years.. |

I hope that 2nd round pick pays off in 6 years.
Yeah Wheeler is a crap contract and is not a good captain, not denying that and Chevy isn't the brightest GM, never said he was. |

Most offensive dmen are...Krug is the same but just will be overpaid for a lot more years. As i stated, Wings could use an offensive dman considering almost everyone else aside from Hronek are stay at home guys that don't put up many points. Could also use someone for the PP. |

I bet Yzerman regretted taking Kucherov in the second round. Point in the third round. Guy can't draft at all. |

Good gawd I hope not, Chevy has been slipping for years so who knows what he might do, would be a massive mistake to trade Laine. |
