we all are anticipating who Jan will take with the NYR pick at #22, then I pretty much told him he's gotta run through those last 8 picks quick

Sounds like there has indeed been significant interest in teams trading for Torey Krug's rights. My belief is last offer from #NHLBruins to Krug's camp was 6 years x $6.5 million.

For some reason, I see the Rangers announcing a presser after the SCF are done. I think Hank is retiring. I just don't see him coming back to NY just for his kids being enrolled in school (school this year can be full remote for all ages). Something is up.

I'd rather see the Rangers trade TDA's rights and the #22 pick to STL for Dunn or to MIN for Dumba.

I kinda want to stay away from the Krug situation. Rangers have had zero luck signing offensive types of D-men the past few decades. Plus, he's going home to Detroit.

You're probably right. Can you imagine Hank's and Staal's hit off the books?

We already had a Krug. His name was Pionk.

Now we have a better Krug named Fox.

it would unbelievably fantastic if he was retiring, adding around 14 million in cap space at the expense of a 2nd rounder, OMG

Precisely.
If it happens, colour me ecstatic. I just won't believe it until 3 days after it happens.

I can see the argument that you really can't afford to because you'll need veterans, but I still think they could trade Smith at 50% retained. At one year, he has to have some value to somebody. I'm not even sure you'd have to add a sweetener there.

With Staal and possibly Hank off the books, Smith has value to US! Whether it's on our 3rd pairing, or 4th line.

if the Rangers continue to make moves that create cap space, they are gonna do something that's gonna blow our hair back

It's what I said when the Staal moved happen. You don't just give up a 2nd round pick for nothing. They could have just bought out Staal and found a way to get by with the cap. I think they have a bigger move in mind.

They cannot go too crazy. There are significant PB's to potentially pay and some significant contracts that will need extensions on very soon. Might be best to save to keep the core we want to keep for years down the road.

I would think about keeping him as an extra D man, but I'm done with him on the 4th line. Not even taking Laffy into consideration, it's quite possible we need to find playing time for someone like Barron, or just a regular spot somewhere for Gaut. Our wings are just too loaded to pencil in a spot for him.

they are gonna look at it as they've traded that 2nd for the free agent they bring in (or re-sign, it's still possible they bring back Fast)

I know I finally gave in and accepted that Strome was a good fit here, but what if that big move is trading Strome and using cap space to bring in a proven 2C?
