In the last week here I've read about:
Pat Laine
Patrick Laine
Patrik Laine
But spelling aside, I'm sure the rumours have legs. Any update on JVR + Ghost for Gaudreau. That seemed pretty legit. Maybe Philly is having second thoughts? - Kooleus
That's a horrible trade, JVR has a brutal contract and Ghost isn't the same as when he broke into the league so his value has dropped significantly. Basically 2 contract throwaways that Philly is desperately trying to get rid of. |

Now show age, one was worth more 5 years ago, when the other was 17 - Ross77
Relax Ross77 I simply asked the question!
I never said JG was worth more but the numbers were a shocker when I looked them up.
Last 2 seasons:
JG 152 GP, 54G, 103A, 157PTS
Laine 150GP, 58G, 55A, 113 PTS
I mean JG just turned 27 so its not like I compared Laine to Guy Lafleur. |

Seems pretty fair to me but not sure the Jets would want the Deangelo baggage.
Rangers getting #33 for Georgiev ia a premium. |

Subject change here . . . A question (or 3) for fellow Jets fans:
Who would you like to see the Jets draft at 10th overall?
Could anyone see them drafting D Braden Schneider (?) and, if so, perhaps trading down a few spots to do so . . . ?
Seth Jarvis would be intriguing here, also, but my preference would lean towards Schneider |

My preference in order ( although I doubt the first two fall)
Rossi
Perfetti
Lundell
Jarvis
I would not want Schneider, I’d rather a potential Center in Round one |

He is not going anywhere
More bs clickbait
This kid is staying in the Peg
Book it Dano - Koots 33
But Dano is no longer with the Jets. I am so confused |

Shiefele, Wheeler, connor, Ehlers are all locked up long term. How many forwards can one team pay over 6 million?
A team needs balance and can not spend all its cap on forwards, see Leafs.
Do not over think or assume off ice issues, that would be a mistake.
Also, 1/5 first round picks bust!!! So yes, he is absolutely worth 2 first rounders plus, cause it’s far more likely Laine scores over 500 goals in the NHL than it is the 2 first rounders are even top 6 players - Ross77
6 Mil? Leafs have a bushel at 10+

He is worth more than that! I am thinking a 2C, top 4D and two first round picks! - TheUltimateJet
You need to find a team willing to part with that. Good luck.

Lots of offensive players have done exceptionally well under Trotz. Name me one that has suffered. - TheUltimateJet
Laine is not defensively responsible.
I know Ovi bought into Trotz's system, but do you think "Pat " would??? |

Personally I'd rather the Flyers target Vesalainen over Laine.
Ghost and 2020 2nd for Vesalainen. |

I think New Jersey would make the ideal trade partner as I previously posted. |

Not bad but nobody will take Okposo so add Olofsson and this happens. - joegreif17
Sabres won’t trade Olofsson but the jets need defense more than anything so Risto 2020 2nd 2021 1st and either will borgen or Ryan Johnson. They can then use their picks to acquire a young forward. |

I'm sure Scheifs would love a defensive stalwart like Philly Danault behind him, can't tell me Paul Maurice wouldn't love a better defensively and more offensively capable player than Lowry in his 2 hole.

The Jets are known for being very tight lipped about trades. The Laine “availability” is a distraction or misdirection of some sort.
Contract negotiation tactic? “We don’t want to pay you $XXm, so we’ll trade you if you won’t be reasonable”. Not likely.
I think they are putting all eyes on a big fish to allow them an opportunity to work a smaller but significant move under the guise that Aldine won’t be there soon.
Keep other teams distracted and wasting time trying to find a deal, having them “sleep in” on free agents.
Lastly, expansion is on their mind. If they think they’ll have more to protect than they can, perhaps they make a trade to gain prospects who are exempt.
The last and first ideas are unlikely. I’m curious to find out what they are REALLY up to. |

I was going to post a similar statement. I don't see the Jets trading Laine at this point when Chevy kept players like Trouba until he was almost out of RFA years. You don't give up on 22 year old 40 goal scorers who you have RFA term. The Jets have tonnes of cap room and can take advantage of teams like Tampa Bay that close to the ceiling needing space that will not be trading inside their conference.
If the Jets were ever to want to trade, the smartest move would be after an expansion rather than taking surplus players. If you trade Laine in the off season and you're just increasing the value of players that are exposed in the expansion draft. Any good GM would want players that are staying for term that you don't risk losing after 1 season.
When you consider the age of Scheifele and Wheeler, I don't see teams handing over young players that are expansion exempt that would fit into a top 2 center and top 4 defencemen plus change. The modern NHL does not have GMs that will give the farm like Philly did for Eric Lindros. This just seems like TSN and Sportsnet creating a news story to get us hockey nerds speculating on possible trade scenarios.

Well after much thought, I think the most fair trade for Laine is the following:
To NJ: Patrik Laine, Adam Lowry, 2021 lottery protected first round pick (stipulation being that if the pick is in the lottery, than the Devils get the 2022 first round pick)
To WPG: Nico Hischer, PK Subban, #18 & #20 overall picks
Great trade for both teams! - TheUltimateJet
