He is worth more than that! I am thinking a 2C, top 4D and two first round picks! |

If he is such an amazing asset, why would Winnipeg have any desire to move him? Whenever I get wind of a super star asset being available, I always wonder what the underlying issue is that would leave a team even considering a trade. Obviously NJ minus the assets it would cost to land him, plus Laine ,are still not contenders, so it is a non-starter for the Devils. |

Because they have a lot of gaps to fill. They need a good number 2 center and help on defense. |

Hard to believe anyone will even come close to paying that price. I sure wouldn't. |

Shiefele, Wheeler, connor, Ehlers are all locked up long term. How many forwards can one team pay over 6 million?
A team needs balance and can not spend all its cap on forwards, see Leafs.
Do not over think or assume off ice issues, that would be a mistake.
Also, 1/5 first round picks bust!!! So yes, he is absolutely worth 2 first rounders plus, cause it’s far more likely Laine scores over 500 goals in the NHL than it is the 2 first rounders are even top 6 players |

Fair point. One would think that if you have to move one, you wouldn't move the youngest of the bunch, with the most upside. Something doesn't smell right. |

The trade is one for one. Laine for Larsson. Done. This has been a message from the best unemployed GM in the known (and unknown) universe(s), Peter "the One and Done" Chiarelli. We thank you all for your time.

Once the leafs sign Pietrangelo for a deal worth 850k against the cap (e5), the answer will be "all the forwards" |

What you're smelling is the original content of Hockeybuzz. Eventually you go nose blind and start to accept it. It kinda goes in dry at first, which is unpleasant. You just need to stretch a little. |

I agree with you, it’s more about the organization showing loyalty to their captain and the ones who already agreed to long term deals. I don’t begrudge Laine for thinking he will prove himself to be a 50 goal scorer and wait to cash in. He’s always had confidence. But there is only so much cap space to go around. |

If the Jets trade Laine for they may fill one hole but would create a larger one in Laine's spot. What the Jets have to get is a true, play making center to play with Laine and Ehlers and two big, physical, stay at home d-men. Laine isn't going anywhere. |
