1 will probably be Ses's favorite young d man Aho

Have to think that Lou had someone interested in JHS in some capacity or they wouldn't qualify him. Maybe Puljujarvi straight up?

- nyisles7

JHS for Puljujarvi works for me. Wonder if the Oilers would rather have Otto?

Wonder if Isles let MDC go? I can see keeping MDC as an extra forward. Leo really should not be playing every game next year.
- ses111

Dal Colle is an RFA after next season.

It probably refers to one or two of the guys in the minors. My guess is Kyle Burroughs, since the Isles are likely going to need spots in Bridgeport for Wilde and Dobson to start the AHL season and to make room for Vande Sompel who will be returning from injury. Burroughs seems to have no shot at being an NHL player.

Sounds like there's a good chance Aho goes back to Sweden (assuming the Isles don't trade him), but I'm sure they'd qualify him and retain his rights if he did that.

Thanks chief! Thought MDC was this year? Going to be interesting to see if Dobson starts in AHL. I still like the idea of Isles moving Leddy and getting some picks back.

Well we all know by now that Trotz/Lou will always prefer a veteran to a young guy. I can't stay I disagree with letting Dobson get top-pairing minutes in the AHL until he either plays so well that he forces their hand or someone goes down with the big club.

If Leddy stays, and the rest of the blueline from this season remains intact, I think you'll see Hickey as the 7th defenseman. If Leddy goes I think they'll re-sign Greene and still have Hickey as the 7th dman.

I can't seem to shake the feeling that Lou is going to come out of left field with something big. I'm not putting too much stock in it, but Friedman released a new 31 Thoughts a little while ago with this in it:

Seems more like a passing thought and would likely be near-impossible to pull off for a few reasons. Plus it seems like there's a pretty good chance that he's going to revisit the Parise/Ladd swap with Bellows involved, especially given some of Staple's comments that the Islanders aren't that high on Bellows.

I have no issue if Dobson needs to start in the AHL. I can see the Parise move. I cannot see Laine happening without moving Dobson and I'd rather not move Dobson. I have no idea if Bellows can be a good player just do not think Isles give a long enough look on some of these prospects and I do not think Thompson is the right coach in Bridge. I get the Isles want these players to learn defense but Thompson seems to suck the offense out of these players. Isles need to be able to rely on players from Bridge and cannot be afraid to even play them. This has to change if the Cap is not going up the next few years.

Would not surprise me at all if Isles are not high on Bellows. He only got into 8 games and the 3rd line was horrible before Pageau.

Did you see the part that the Islanders "have cap issues"? I hope you'll set Friedman straight!

Scored 2 goals and had an assist in those 8 games on that terrible line. Was + 3 too.

to put into perspective MDC played over 50 games and had only 4 goals and was - 8

Bellows should have gotten more games and more PP time. This is my point about writing off young players too quickly. MDC has been given a decent look but most of
Bridge call ups have not. Isles cannot keep calling up these Bridge players to mostly sit in the press box becuase they are afraid to play them. Other teams seem to be able to call up useful players from their farm teams. Bridge needs to be finally fixed. Isles have to do a much better job developing young talent and offensive talent in particular.

I guess you missed Athanasiou getting traded at the deadline to Edmonton for two 2nd round picks. Not sure the Oilers would want Boychuck with their cap situation.

I would hope Yzerman would want way more than MDC to take on 2 years of Boychuck. They got a 2nd round pick for 1 year of Staal so i'm guessing a 1st round pick in 2021 with no lottery protection

They most certainly wouldn’t.

But with Klefbom about to be out long term, they just might be interested in Leddy.

He said it in his Q&A the other day as well as once or twice elsewhere. I can't find it now but I know I read it. Plus it's more-or-less already been reported that Bellows was going to be a part of the Ladd/Parise swap at the deadline, so I think it's fair to assume that they're not particularly high on a guy they're willing to dump in order to offload the contract of a useless player.

What is your take on Bellows chief? Has Bellows been given enough of a look and do you think he has been coached correctly in Bridge?

I don't watch BPT games so I don't really have much of an opinion. He's not a great skater, but he's got a great shot. He looked OK when he was up here, but 8 games isn't a sample size to judge anyone on...good or bad.

I'd like to see a coaching change in Bridgeport though, yes.

Thank You! 8 games is not enough of a sample size and I feel a coaching change in Bridge is a must. Maybe MDC is just a bust but it's a huge concern Barry and Lou are afraid to play players from Bridge in a meaningful way and these players do not seem to make much of an impact when given the time.

Thank u.. I had not seen any of these comments. I was hoping the only reason they put Bellows in Parise deal was b/c that what it would take to get it done. He's a local kid that I am sure Minn staff knows well. I am a bit surprised they don't like the kid.

Puljujarvi and the rights to Athanasiou?

Honestly not sure what the Oilers would offer.

MDC pick was bad from day 1, you can't blame everything on the BPT coaching staff. But developing scoring talent within the organization has been a pretty major issue with the Islanders for awhile now.

Defensemen have developed pretty well. Pelech, Pulock, Toews, Mayfield are examples of that. Dobson almost certainly will be too.

But developing forwards at the AHL level has been putrid. To be fair, the book is still out on rookies like Wahlstrom and Holmstrom because they jumped to the AHL at a very young age. But you really can't pick out any forwards in recent years that have made the jump to the big club after spending time developing in the AHL and made any substantial contributions.

At the end of the day, Bellows has played excellent for one part of one season. The rest of his resume is largely unimpressive so far. I'd still prefer not to move him in some sort of salary dump, but I can at least wrap my head around the reasons why the team may not be high on him.

I agree Chief. I do give Barry and his staff most of the credit for the development of the defense though. Isles have been brutal developing forwards though and this needs to change quickly. Goalies have not been developed well either. i really like Sorokin's chances and especially if he does not spend much time in Bridge.

I don’t watch any AHL games either so I don’t have a real sense of how good Bellows is but to me having some cost controlled young talent on this club should be paramount on this team. When we have a third line of Pageau and random plugs from what little I saw of Bellows he seemed like a player that may move the needle a bit more then Brassard or Kuhnackl if given the opportunity.

Komarov is just a given he’s not going anywhere of course but I wish they would invest a little time in Bellows and try to fix the negatives in his game. Again, I say this as someone who saw very little of the kid but he didn’t seem to be a lost cause from what I saw? Maybe he is/was?
