Funny post I just saw:

Odds to win 2021 Stanley Cup:

Chicago Blackhawks - 80/1 (29th)

NY Rangers - 28/1 (15th)

I get there is some excitement around NYR, but that's a bit excessive.

I hope Sikura gets a legit shot with Vegas.

Well, at the very least we now know Stan is awake.

Stan, WTH with these Hawks boomerang trades/signings???

Sigh

I wish Sikura the best - he was not going to get a chance here.

I'd rather have Sikura, to be honest but whatever. It was inevitable that he wasn't going to get his chance to play in the NHL with the Blackhawks. Best wishes to him. Hope he makes it.

Theo excellent write up. I haven't really looked into these players . It doesn't sound like this draft is as deep as last years draft was regarding forwards.

with chicagos cap problems is their a scenario or team that chicago could swing a trade with for their pick ? Saad and maybe a blue chip defensemen plus Chicago's 17th pick ? Maybe new york

I could see one contract not being counted against the cap. Then that team spends that cap space on and equally inflated contract and we are back where we started. 🤫

Any cap adjustment without a corresponding adjustment to the CBA mandated 50/50 split of HRR would only affect the escrow (up or down). I doubt the players would want to increase an already disastrous cap situation (they’ll already be paying the excess back over several years) - and I doubt either side would want to change the 50/50 split.

To what end?

Glad Sikura may get a real chance in the Vegas Show, but what does a 29 year old Pirri do for Chicago?

Other than bringing back another former player....

I think its More so this year that has the biggest effect on the nhl salary cap then next year. Imo a vaccine is right around the corner so next year imo things will be back to normal.

how is sikura going to get a chance on a vegas team that is way deeper then the hawks? I felt Like he would get shipped to a team that need some 3 rd line help and some guys with more skill. he was a bad fit for us. high skill no size. but pirri makes even less sense. I was thinking matta and sikura to a team like JETS BUFF DET OTT

Same here theo!!
I just don't understand why this trade was made. Hopefully you can find out the logic behind this move. It begs to question what direction is Stan going in.

Don’t have to worry about drafting a forward now - Pirri is their front line addition for this offseason.

It has to be more vet presence in Rockford. There can't be any need for him on the mother ship.

A vaccine in and of itself does not get things back to normal. Effectiveness, distribution, % of people actually getting it, and a host of other factors will play a huge role in when things will be "back to normal". This is likely regardless of what the infection and death rates actually are, because mayors/governors/prime ministers/presidents/etc. will likely have differing views on how to handle the situation since few want to get ahead of themselves and exacerbate the problem by being too aggressive. Caution will likely be the word going forward.

If we’re on the corner of State and Madison, the vaccine is on the corner of 42ns St. and Broadway. A long way around the corner.

Especially by the time sufficient doses can be produced and distributed, and enough people can be persuaded to get it.

Next year (December? January?) will not be back to normal. 2021-22 may begin the return to it.

How many vets do they need on a team that may not even play next season?

Ugh!!! Trading someone with questionable potential for someone with no future. Just what the Hawks needed, another guy that only plays in one zone.

I am sorry, but I do not get it at all.

I think this move was simply a swap of minor leaguers. This was the Hawks saying to Sikura, we don't see you ahead of 4-5 other guys, so we want to give you a chance with another club. In 3 years with VGK, Pirri has played 2, 31, and 16 games with the big club. We just swapped out a younger AHLer with and older one.

I don't think this is anything to lose sleep over (not that I'm saying you are). CHI just didn't think enough of him and wanted to "do right" and give him a shot somewhere else. I would have preferred that they try to use him as a "sweetener" on another deal, but if Pirri is all we got for him, he likely isn't all that highly regarded around the league.

The entire purpose of racing to find a effective vaccine is to get the world back to normal. Your other points at least here in the US have all been worked out .

Also where alomost as a country at the point of herd ammunitty that with a vaccine and many proven therapeutic allow for things to go back to normal. The survival rate is 99% and the low end on that for people ages 70 plus is 94%
