the idea of saving a few bucks by bringing in a replacement level 6/7 D instead of Hagg implies that the minor cap savings outweighs Hagg's value compared to a scrub
I disagree. Hagg is a useful player who is improving. There's a year over year benefit to having players who have chemistry with their teammates and a familiarity with the coaches and the team's systems |

I’m not saying that’d be my plan, I’m saying I don’t see Fletcher shaking things to the point you’re gonna see big changes. Plus, a flat cap makes dealing bigger contracts very difficult. - Dave21Brown
Always chasing their tails. Whether it be overpaying for free agents, trading draft picks for rentals, missing on first round picks etc.... It's getting old. Christ it was old 20 years ago. |

for someone that tells me I have nothing pretty regularly, you doing basic math like you're adding to the discussion is hilarious. - Ftown19125
lets see hagg signed for 1.6 correct? Yes he did. You can sign a vet for 1 million. Yes you can. So therefore the savings would be 600k correct? Yes that it is correct. See you next Tuesday pal. |

Well if Seattle is run but competent people I dont think they want Hagg. Not sure why you say a very good chance. There will be many 6/7 caliber dman available. - login
Look at what vegas did. Great model. Stockpile descent d. Trade and improve. Teams getting ready for a cup run. Haag is what he is. But he would be on most clubs active roster. |

Like many say every dollar counts. Overspending on your bottom pair and 4th line isn't wise no matter how small the savings.
What value does Hagg add? He is is your run of the mill replacement level player. |

Yes decent D. I dont think Hagg is very good and is replacement level player. |

Pretty much. That's the problem with spending to the cap before a team is legit ready to compete for a cup.
The hope is the young players take another step forward and the veteran core can still contribute at a good clip. Add a bottom six forward and defensive depth on bargain contracts and hope for the best. - StepfordSam
Can see the handwriting on the wall, the bottom six forward is going to be Nate Thompson. |

No complaints with this deal. Hagg improved his play under AV this year IMO. Congrats to Hagg - arichardson22

So bring back the same team that we know isn't good enough to compete for a Cup? That's the plan? - PLindbergh31
Hmmm...for the few months prior to the shutdown they seemed pretty legit to me. I don't see why they can't be that team again. |

Wrong, they are horrible! And they have zero prospects that might make a difference and fill a role. |

I am fine with Hagg. Don't love him and don't hate him.
Need to get Myers signed to see what kinda cap space they will have. After signing Myers, No Pa and the backup they will be right up against the cap.
Defense under contract at the NHL level for 2021
Provy-Niskanen
Sanheim-
Hagg-Ghost
Morin
Not sure that gets it done even after Myers resigns. I think Ghost gets moved. |

maybe Laughton, ghost , and 2022 first can get Laine to switch things up. |

Ghost is available per Pierre Lebrun, just posted on the score app. Pretty obvious he was available but seems like it’s time. |

So unless Van Riemsdyk, or Gostisbehere's contracts are moved, what changes do you see to the roster? - PLindbergh31
Our Young players get better.......
2nd year under AV will clean up the wrinkles in the current system they play
What realistically did you expect? At 1 mill what FA do you think is going to join the 3rd pair and turn this team around? Demelo? Holzer? Del Zotto? Thats all you are getting for 1 mill.
Hagg is a fine 3rd pair Dman. He knows his role and he does it well. Plus 1.6 mill is a hell of a lot better than Braun at 3.8 mill |

and then you get to either lose him or pay him about 9-10 million the following season. sounds like a great idea. |
