i'm laughing at people who think in terms of "alpha" and "beta." if you actually look into it, the researcher who came up with the terms/theory disavowed its use with respect to humans (also for wolves but it's a little more complicated.)

Using the riot as a fallback argument is extremely weak, that's something I've only ever seen from casual non-Canuck fans

Canucks made it to game 5 in that series. Games 6 and 7 were no shows and brutal beat downs. No Canuck fan should never brag they made it to game 7 in 2011

So with the draft coming up more interesting for Canuck fans is what trades are made.

There is no linear or one dimensional formula path to rebuild or build a contender. Factors are fluid and in constant change to circumstances.

Like to see what pieces come back or are interchanged in the next couple weeks.

Only 2 teams per season can make it to the final

Pretty solid accomplishment imo, having a couple of bad games doesn't completely diminish the fact that they were far and away the best team in the league most of that year.

If all that matters is winning I'm surprised you're here instead of hanging out in a TBL blog.

Congrats to 2011 Canucks . No shame in making it to the 2011 Cup finals and no shame in the team winning to rounds this year.

can we also agree that Benning didn't see the need for a full rebuild and he was proven wrong as well?

as lefty pointed out, MG wanted a full rebuild with a restructuring of the scouting staff.

it seems that MG was more in agreement with a rebuild than Benning. Is this what "we all know?"

The twins were still playing so to me that is a factor. They could have traded them but I am glad they didn't - for better or for worse.

Some of what Benning was saying publicly during those years was also about setting the bar high i.e. instilling accountability and making clear that players were exepected to work hard regardless of how the team was rated. Winning was unlikely but the effort couldn't waiver during the transition.

Some short cuts were taken that did not turn out well but they were all consistent with the plan of injecting players of different ages into the lineup in order to transition from the old team to the young team made up of Benning's draft picks.

Mgmt can't just ignore that they are dealing with real humans (with faults, etc.) like the backseat GMs can. The youth injected into the lineup needed some big brothers to set the standard...no one expected Petey and Hughes to dominate so quickly but in the long run it is a good problem to have.
