Not to rehash yesterday's discussion, but, I wanted them to start rebuilding after the collapse in the playoffs of 2012.
It was obvious, to me anyways, that many of the players were starting to decline and the compete level was no longer there.
When Gillis signed the twins to a 4 year extension in November of 2013, I knew then that this team would not be relevant for at least another 6 years, as Gillis stated they wanted to build around the twins.

100%.

I was in Van at that time for that PO series and man the talk on Kesler wanting out was high. After that pounding they should have for sure at least started a bit of a tear down of the club. I liked the Sedins as a whole...but wasn't a huge fan of the extension either.

From Elliotte

"Not sure it is even possible, but I think Arizona and Vancouver had an Oliver Ekman-Larsson conversation."

- VanHockeyGuy

Saw that somewhere, but the person who said it ventured it was just a "kicking the tires, seeing what the value was" type of conversation. Not an actual "how do we make this happen" kind of talk.

Don't see it happening, but I do think something else will pretty soon.

I heard today that the NHL are hoping to start Jan 1 but they need to be finished July 22 because of NBC and the Olympics. They want 12 games a month so that would be a 60 game regular season

Elliott Friedman

“The Lightning are not satisfied with one win — they want to maintain themselves for a shot at more. Expect Brisebois to think unconventionally. I think teams will ask if Sergachev wants a bigger role. He’s on the left side with Hedman and McDonagh.”

Didn't the Caps say the same thing after their Cup win? Well sure they will figure it out trading out key pieces for ELC players.

Its part of the hybrid bubble proposal but they will start in December. Lots of tire kicking on plans. But given the politics and sh1tshow down south don't be surprised if the NHL starts with an all Canadian 4 city bubble situation that allows family access.

I wonder if the World Juniors in Edm will interfere with scheduling at all.

Trade idea:

LE, Virtanen, OJ for OEL 1m retained.

OEL - Hughes
Edler - Myers

becomes your top 4. Big question is whether or not OEL's lower numbers these last couple years are due to being on a sh!tty Coyotes team. I think he still has 4 or 5 years of elite play in him on a better team.

how is the world juniors going to work? will they have teams come in a month early just to get some sort of isolation/quarantine?

with all the players travelling from around the world, if there is going to be a sh!tshow pandemic wise, i would think this is the tournament.

also, how is canada deciding on players? with no or few leagues playing since last march, it's going to be difficult to figure out who should play. add in that players would need to quarantine prior to training camp (?) and this becomes a very complicated process.

I dunno, all I've seen is that they're doing a bubble tournament. I saw something about the US holding training camps, I would assume Canada will do the same at some point.

All I know is I'm happy I get to keep my tickets as they will return to Edmonton/Red Deer again next year.

The same way they got NHL players into the bubble and had zero positive cases. Training camps will have the same protocols as the NHL did too. Though hey there will be doubters calling it a thingy.

i think they'll play as well. i just hadn't heard anything about the logistics.
i'm more interested to see how they'll decide on who makes the team.

just a thought: have a big pool of players that come in around late nov. do the initial isolation and testing. have tryouts that span a week. and then have a training camp that culminates with the beginning of exhibition play.

...but to have a big pool of invitees/tryout players, that means that other leagues haven't started.

7 more years at $8.2M until he's 37 hmmm. Besides no way AZ takes LE or retains. I get OEL could replace a retiring Edler and QH could play on his offside. Though you think they'd need to invest more on a RSD especially given that you would lose Tanev in that kind of exchange at this point.

Why would you play QH on his off side?

I would stay as far away from OEL as possible. If you think having Edler, or Myers, or LE on the books is bad, having an 8.25 mil contract until the guy is 36/37 is terrible. Especially since you'll be need to pay Hughes, Petey, Bo, Brock, and possibly some guys like Podk and Hoglander over that time. Makes no sense.
