Here's a question. Anyone can answer this. If Vancouver offered Yzerman "Thatcher Demko and Loui Eriksson" for future considerations, would you do it? I would. Loui has 2 more years left at 6 mil AAV. Demko could be a young stud Franchise goalie. Now that's weaponizing Cap space. |

If we could get them to eat a turd on return, why not? They couldn’t stomach Abby, but maybe Nielsen? I love your scenario brother. Keep them coming |

Canucks need cap space so they wouldn't want Nielsen. Clearing Eriksson's 2 years at 6 mil AAV would be huge for them. Mikey DiPietro can backup Markstrom. Assuming of course they re-sign Markstrom. Personally, I'd let Markstrom walk and keep Demko. Demko will be a RFA after next season.
Yzerman is in a great position to flex more cap space muscle. I think the Staal trade is only the beginning. |

That’s a really good point. I love his candidness during the interview. He separates “icing a team” from building THE TEAM. Lots of temporary parts with a core that is in process. Very cool stuff.
Ek’s newest post is citing up to 4 teams potentially folding and several NHLers looking for jobs. |

Yzerman wants this Red Wings team to build slowly. Build the right way. But he likely wants to see some progression. Too much losing creates a losing culture. But if he builds in stages as he did with Tampa then we'll be fine.
There's likely going to be players available who otherwise wouldn't be available thanks to the harsh economic realities of today's NHL. Yzerman just has to pick his poisons wisely and we know he's more than capable of doing that.
The guts of this team will be built through the draft so that's what he means when he says "be patient." But fleecing other GMs in trades (Sergachev, McDonagh, Bishop, Callahan, Vasilevski) will help speed up the process. Maybe he can call Kenny Holland? 😉 |

I hate to say it, but it’s an ideal time for a rebuild. Good teams are going to struggle with economics and important pieces could be the casualty. No one could have predicted all this mess, but it’s nice to be on the rebuild side |

For Backup goalies, I'd also be fine with either Louis Domingue or Andrew Hammond as cheap number 2 options. Both under 30, have performed well in spurts in the NHL. Both would be cheap
Heck even Ryan Miller, who really wasnt bad this season, for a year would be fine. He made 1.25 this year, so for that or less, I'm fine.
Talbot would still be preferable to any of these 3, but goodness there are ALOT of Goalies out there this offseason.
Just dont tie up long term money, or too much of the cap space you can weaponize and I'm fine. It's not like winning is the goal this year.... 😂😂😂
Heck could Dallas want to dump off the last 2 years of Ben Bishop? What would that return in assets for the Wings? |

Bishop gets injured when he sneezes. It's too bad because he really is a very good goalie. But I'd take him if the cost isn't high. Miller will either stay in Anaheim or retire. His wife is an actress. Domingue and Hamburglar both suck. I'd sign Craig Anderson if I can't get Talbot. |

I would do that deal in a heartbeat...i was hoping for that exact deal before Demko played those 3 games in the playoffs. Now that they are letting Markstrom go to market, there is no way they do it.
I would have been ok with the Wings adding a draft pick to the Staal deal to get Georgiev too. I want the Wings to get a good young goalie not sign some 30 year old average goalie like Markstrom to a bloated contract. |

Is Markstrom definitely gone from Vancouver? But yeah. They'd have to keep Demko if they lose Markstrom to UFA. |

Good blog, Detroit is definitely the likely team for all hell to break loose after the unanimous top 3. My gut feeling says that it won’t be either Raymond or holtz, they could take the safe pick in drysdale but Seider plays the same side and next years top end is supposed to be loaded with D, that leaves Rossi and perfetti. As of the Rasmussen loan both players now have been linked to Detroit. Both are undersized but contain that high risk high reward value, perfetti would be more of a reach but it’s harder hard to ignore his production on a team with a lot less talent than Rossi’s 67’s. My guess is one of those 2 but after last year it could even be lundell who knows.
I don’t see yzerman trading down to select askarov but with his history in Tampa I could see the wings using a 2nd on a goalie. Something I may advise against as it appears highly talented but undersized goalies (Kamloops’ Garand/London’s Brochu) aren’t getting the same love that other tendy’s with worse stats but a couple inches on them are getting). This would be if goalies weren’t a complete crap shoot for the most part to begin with |

I think Markstrom is going to hit the market simply because he will want a clause to protect him from being picked in the expansion draft. If the Canucks do this they can't keep Demko. Going with Demko will also be much cheaper and allow them to maybe sign Toffoli or Tanev or maybe both. If i were the GM of Vancouver i would let Markstrom walk and keep Demko, sign some cheaper vet that i could expose in the expansion draft. |

Yup! We can't hope for a return their prime when they are past it, or he would just stick with Howard.
I really like the Eriksson/Demko for futures thing! I also thought that the NYI's would do similar deal as in Ladd/Wilde for futures. Or Vegas with MAF/Nick Hague for futures.

4 more years of Jack Johnson. We could keep him for 3. Buy out his 4th year. Pens could keep Nielsen for a year and buy out his last year. We get Murray locked up long term. Not bad. |

JJ only has 3 more years. Nielsen could be an expensive 3C for them. He mainly sucked last year because he went from having skilled linemates to absolute trash. Still very overpaid though. |
